About the milk, the ones you are referring to are packed in tetra packs and treated with UHT (Ultra High Temperature) processing which gives them a shelf life of 2-3 months unless they're opened, then they need to placed in a fridge. The other kind of milk is simple pasteurized which you'll always find in refrigerators and has a shelf life of 5-7 days max

Indian here. I could spot lot more "western" brands in this Pakistani market compared to Indian supermarket. We have way more local brands. We also discard the chicken skin in most dishes and meat shops peel the skin on demand. The other thing is the price. Indian supermarkets are not easy on pockets of average Indians. But I think the situation is significantly worse in Pakistan. Even after conversion, some of the stuffs are 1.5-4 times more costly!

My kaamwali bai who works 4 houses and his chief mason husband fall in this category. They told me they avoid the super market. Why not? Its not easy on their pocket. If your household earn more than 5 lakh till 30 lakh in India, you are classified as "affluent" and you are not an "average" Indian. I understand your surprise at my statement. Hi jetLag Warriors!. UHT milk can stay without refrigeration until expiration date. Once the Tetra Pack is open, it must being keep it refrigerated or being consumed within, no more, than 24 hours. UHT milk, is fluid milk, but not fresh milk. It´s more inexpensive than fresh milk mostly. Most of the times, it´s made it, using powder milk and filtred water with an added stabilizer on it. It´s a more industrialized kind of milk, than regular fresh milk. It´s very safe and good quality as well. it´s a GREAT way to get fluid, safe and good quality, milk for less than fresh milk.

UHT milk does not need refrigeration till opened. Also, Australian cows are mentioned because majority of milk in Pakistan is from water buffaloes. There are some dairies which have Holstein cows, which are colloquially called "Australian cows" in Pakistan. We don't have chicken skin because most of our cooking involves wet cooking the chicken (braising/currying/stewing) which makes the skin lose its texture and taste and feel unpleasant.

All the Doritos are imported, that’s why it’s so expensive. Lays is local.

The milk outside is usually milk made out of powder and fresh milk is kept inside the fridge as it's impossible for fresh milk to survive even with air con on. Powder milk in cartons are sold everywhere here in the UK and are kept on shelves outside

This grocery shop that you have visited is selling prices at double prices.... you should not determine the prices only by checking one grocery store..... some grocery stores near this store are selling the same things at half price as well...
