Yess! Preach! It was such a bad insult to your people and there’s such a sad story behind the word itself but people use it often nowadays without thinking. People use the word recklessly and it’s sad to me because the N word was such a hurtful history. Someone African American has told me they have adopted the word since it’s in there culture and they have history of the word. If anyone addressed me as chink knowing that it was an insult to our people, it would hurt me a lot.

As a non-Black Latina woman who LOVES hip hop myself, I agree it's strange that ppl wanna say it so bad. I easily fill that gap of the N word in a song with a hum, a note, etc. I disagree with Loni here. When she said "replace the slur then", I like that Amanda called it out and said it's NOT being used as a slur in this musical context. Just in the same way Latinos have reclaimed "CHICANO"--which was a SLUR at one point, we now have reframed its meaning, and it's OUR word, not a slur. (For example: the entire Chicano/a movement, even the band El Chicano, etc.). I agree with Amanda's whole point 100%. Some things are not FOR you to use. That's all it is.

Most non-blacks that say it don’t use it as a slur either. So what’s the difference?
@juanaabad7315
@juanaabad7315 Жыл бұрын
But the issue was she only claimed being “Afro Latina “ when she got push back for a multitude of other issues-- on top of it being understood her experience wouldn’t quite be like that of “Amara’s” experience in receiving the full brunt of systematic repercussions of black oppression. It’s giving “but my cousin is Black”. It’s easy to use the misdirection when u need a scapegoat for being held accountable. The radio doesn’t allow the “nword” on air play you have to get an uncensored version rather on the album or via streaming.
@ebonyeverything2751
@ebonyeverything2751 Жыл бұрын
@@hildaamethyst528 when a non black person uses it they should understand that it's a slur almost automatically because they are not black! If they are REALLY a person who cares about black people and being an advocate then they shouldn't be using the word in the 1st place. Non black people thinking that it's ok for them to use it as a non slur is the problem! You're non black, so you're not welcome to use that word. It's a slur when u use it.

The n word can be played on some stations, particularly some satellite radio stations. But I think Loni’s larger point was that the music industry at-large shouldn’t allow songs with the n-word to be released at all. She wasn’t exclusively referring to radio stations today especially since most people stream their music anyway. She was mainly referring to radios in a historical fashion bc radio stations don’t hold their same place and power in the industry as they once did.

JJP Exactly... I genuinely feel that Gina Rodriguez is racist. It would be an entirely different thing if she just said the n-word accidentally on a livestream or something. Then, she would just be ignorant. But she actually took the time to film her singing a song with the n-word when she knows she’s had a history of people calling her racist. She’s not stupid. Everyone knows that black people have problems with non-black people repeating the n-word. It’s like she’s taunting black people or something. It’s so weird.

It’s what you listen to with your friends, if you don’t know a song you aren’t cool, so on a so forth. Quit using a word that was birthed from oppression. Take responsibly for the fact that YOU are responsible for this mess. Giving this word new life and power instead of letting it sit and die in a time of oppression.

I agree with the big girl if you want to stop people from saying a word that would offend your culture then dont put on the air to have people say it and not treat it with respect. Trust me I'm seeing people say the N word all the time when a black music comes on and yet they dont get in trouble but yet when someone goes online then they get into trouble and that should not be right and I think everyone shouldn't even say it in the first place if your sensitive about the topic of the N word. I mean is it worst that black people say Asian words that offends people how come the Asians dont get mad on the blacks for saying funny Asian sounds cause they sure do that a lot. That's what lana or the big black girl was trying to say is if you dont want people to treat your culture right then dont use it in a bad or funny way.

I got a very clear message that that word carried much grief anger and trauma with it.. in no way did it strike me as an empowering term for black people but rather the opposite a very degrading term.. when I got older and listened to the rap music of the 80s I was shocked and confused! I was raised outside the US and therefore was not immersed in the African American culture at that time.. since then in all the research I’ve done I still do not understand the logic in claiming it as an empowering term 🤨 I feel this makes it VERY confusing for other races to regard and address African Americans in a respectful manor.. keep in mind hip hop culture is for many non African Americans their only insight into our culture... why not rap about profound and uplifting achievements within the culture and history (Alexander Hamilton Style 😜)

The word shouldn't be used by anyone if it really is considered offensive. It just confuses people or promotes people to say it. The word had held horrid meaning behind it and was used to demean Black people. But in this day in age, it's almost used in a different context. The culture has shifted the meaning of it. The word doesn't need to be glamourised by anyone.
