The n word can be played on some stations, particularly some satellite radio stations. But I think Loni’s larger point was that the music industry at-large shouldn’t allow songs with the n-word to be released at all. She wasn’t exclusively referring to radio stations today especially since most people stream their music anyway. She was mainly referring to radios in a historical fashion bc radio stations don’t hold their same place and power in the industry as they once did.

As a non-Black Latina woman who LOVES hip hop myself, I agree it's strange that ppl wanna say it so bad. I easily fill that gap of the N word in a song with a hum, a note, etc. I disagree with Loni here. When she said "replace the slur then", I like that Amanda called it out and said it's NOT being used as a slur in this musical context. Just in the same way Latinos have reclaimed "CHICANO"--which was a SLUR at one point, we now have reframed its meaning, and it's OUR word, not a slur. (For example: the entire Chicano/a movement, even the band El Chicano, etc.). I agree with Amanda's whole point 100%. Some things are not FOR you to use. That's all it is.

But the issue was she only claimed being “Afro Latina “ when she got push back for a multitude of other issues-- on top of it being understood her experience wouldn’t quite be like that of “Amara’s” experience in receiving the full brunt of systematic repercussions of black oppression. It’s giving “but my cousin is Black”. It’s easy to use the misdirection when u need a scapegoat for being held accountable. The radio doesn’t allow the “nword” on air play you have to get an uncensored version rather on the album or via streaming.

@@hildaamethyst528 when a non black person uses it they should understand that it's a slur almost automatically because they are not black! No I dont agree with her statement because she was having 2 sides that cant come together. I agree with the big girl if you want to stop people from saying a word that would offend your culture then dont put on the air to have people say it and not treat it with respect. Trust me I'm seeing people say the N word all the time when a black music comes on and yet they dont get in trouble but yet when someone goes online then they get into trouble and that should not be right and I think everyone shouldn't even say it in the first place if your sensitive about the topic of the N word. I mean is it worst that black people say Asian words that offends people how come the Asians dont get mad on the blacks for saying funny Asian sounds cause they sure do that a lot. That's what lana or the big black girl was trying to say is if you dont want people to treat your culture right then dont use it in a bad or funny way.

Tony Saracen i see what you’re saying about victim, a lot of play victim and some is warranted some not. i was being genuine when i said i didn’t know. no one has ever told me this before. again, i don’t go around saying that word, so don’t miss understand,; however there isn’t a lot of knowledge as to the ‘why’. this can be said for many races / hurtful words. there are slurs for jewish people that i never knew reasoning as where it came from or how it became offensive. same for asian people and so on and so on...... it’s a shame that there is so much hatred in the world and that we have to even have these conversations.

Yeah but you can be Latina and black- Latina isn’t a race, it’s an umbrella term for people from Latin America, there are white and brown latinas like Gina Rodriquez and there are black latinas like Cardi- there are people of all races in every country and every culture. For example a quote that hits home to me from one of my fave songs is “where would Galway be without Ghana”, certainly America is a prime example of this because it’s such a melting pot of cultures and races. From what I understand Cardi B is black (light-skinned) if we’re talking race. And if we’re talking about ‘how light-skinned are you before you’re white’ then I think that’s getting into colourism and the conversation on ‘deciding who’s black’ which I legit think there’s no answer to cos EVERYBODY will have a different opinion on who “qualifies” as a certain race. I’m not an expert though and I want to be as respectful as I can on the issue, just sharing my opinion and perspective.
@jay_baby_lacy39115 жыл бұрын

I’m black British and I’m never said the N word in my life. So I’m really confused why anyone would want to say it, irrespective of the colour that they are. Especially since has the word has held and still holds a lot of negative, emotional and demeaning connotations. And secondly, to Amanda’s point about rappers or black artists using the N word to speak about their black experience. I don’t agree and it’s a big stretch. So every single black artist that’s used the N word in their song is using it to speak about their black experience? Of course not! I think that if we want people to stop saying the N word, we as black people should lead by example and stop saying the word ourselves. Yes, we can argue that it won’t stop people saying the word in “private” areas but it sure would stop scenarios like this. Maybe I’m wrong but🤷🏾♀️

As a non black Latina I agree with Amanda. Loni is talking about taking the n word out of songs but that is extreme censorship. People have the freedom of speech, and banning a word from being used through an expression of art (Cuz that’s what music is: art) is against the first amendment. Black people have the right to use that word in way that they want to. Non black people don’t have to say it, it’s very simple. Just like I and most Latinos would not like other groups saying racial slang words about us, why would we need to say the n word? We have no claim to it and no right.
@newleft22545 жыл бұрын
It's not extreme censorship, Loni just wants black people to not say it like how other cultures do not sing racial slurs in their music. I get her point. She wants her people to fight against the word like how Jewish and other minorities do.

@@newleft2254 it's extreme censorship because she is placing the blame of non-black people using the word on black people and calling for it's removal despite millions of black people wanting to use the word.
