If Fulton County gets a new jail, it should be built to higher standards, with longevity in mind for the physical structure. Bottom of the barrel bidders who skimp on quality building should be weeded out. Also, the county should be barred from housing any outside inmates, no federal inmates, for instance. These sheriffs are revenue hungry and they often use the housing of federal inmates as a way to raise money. The jail should suit the needs necessary to deal with Atlanta crime only. This sheriff, buying a 200 thousand dollar+ custom van , while the jail crumbles and while inmates are dying, well, those aren't good optics for him, and the governance of Atlanta in general. Atlanta is grossly mismanaged.
