@@donniebaker5984 nah, only in KZbin shorts do the parts not need finish machining. Machining is way way more dimensionally accurate. Usually printing is just used to create geometries that machining can't, it never replaced it. I don't think you know a thing about a machine shop.

Just entered the machining world at 21 making couplers and fast guides with .0005" tolerence at RMS Medical. We just got 30 of these printers at our facility and they are MIND BLOWING. No scrap, filament is way easier to manipulate then job stock, and the finish coming off is consistent. In the medical field, you don't want a shiny, smooth finish. You want a rugged finish so the skin has something to adhere to. This is the future of machining as a whole. Mark my words🤷🏼‍♂️

What are you doing for heat treatment after sintering? Solution anneal it and give it one of the H-conditions for 17-4 PH?
@themechanicaladvantage
@themechanicaladvantage 2 жыл бұрын
Microstructure for binder printed metals often show very porous resulting material which makes the precipitation hardening process difficult. You don't often see these parts being given hardening conditions because they are not real end-use parts. However, other 17-4SST capable processes [most commonly powder bed fusion derivatives] are capable and more receptive of heat treating. You would need to ensure to remove all excess powder post print and then you could apply a typical H900 or otherwise.

When I was a 'young' fellow at 16-17, I had watched Star Trek like so many other people. When Scotty used his Tricorder to say, 'Aye Captain, the broken plasma conduit is behind this wall." or something similar, I said in my young man voice. "Bull Stockings!". I was also wondering how all that 'stuff' could be repaired in space. Not like there were parts stores on every asteroid! Then, as this video shows, parts can now be printed! WOW. Oh, about that 'tricorder' finding the 'plasma conduit'. I purchased a wireless tool that has a transmitter and a receiver in 2002 or so that can find a broken wire or wires in a vehicles harness without cutting anything apart. Darned, now I can do Scotty things. I retired from HD fleet maintenance in 2015. 😁😎

I'm confused why wash and cure fdm? Was it metal ?.. did it get powder coated? Or anode cathode style transferance

The 17-4 stainless parts are washed to remove the majority of the wax/polymer matrix that holds the filament together. Then they are sintered to fuse the metal filament together to create a dense metal part.
