Giroud provides much more than goals. the man is a defenders nightmare for pinning them down. he provides outlet for griezman and mbappe to release and hold the ball up top. non of the current french striker can do that. Short story long, Mbappe, Griezman, Coman, Dembele all thrived with a target man as a striker. the only reason why Pogba got his name in the national team was he could pick the pass to giroud to hold the team on the opposition's box. There is no point for France to dominate games. That’s why they can’t score or create anything. They are counterattack team so they need opponent to have the ball. Belgium didn’t want to have the ball so you saw idealess France. Austria high pressed so France had space in behind to run in attack. It’s crazy that France have made it to the quarterfinals of the EUROs despite the fact that they have failed to score an actual goal at the tournament. They have scored 3 goals, 2 of which were an own goal and 1 was a penalty; meaning that they have scored 0 goals from open play yet they have very good attacking options and has the best player in the world on the team who’s a Ballon Dor contender. Didier Deschamps expects a lot more from his team especially from a title contender, but he’ll take anything that’ll be enough for them to advance and imagine if they win the EUROs playing like this. They were obviously a much stronger team than Belgium and while an own goal was enough for them to win the game, they’ll take it and their defensive solidarity made it difficult for their attack to break them down and that could be a positive thing for them going forward since in football, attack wins you games, defense wins you titles. Spain and Germany have been far more dominant and convincing than them purely off the eye, they have this ability of grinding out results when they don’t play well and there’s a reason why they’ve made it to 3 finals in the last 4 major tournaments and despite their disappointing EUROs in 2021, made it to back to back World Cup finals where they actually won the World Cup in 2018 because regardless of how they’re playing, France are a team that you don’t want to count out in a major tournament. The advantage that they have in certain games is winning is enough irrespective of how you play. Both teams have been very unconvincing, but the difference between them and England is that they’re a much better team and you can see how Deschamps wants the team to set up despite their reliance on individuals and when it comes to big games he’s very conservative and has a cautious approach even if he can be criticized for that at times. Their matchup against Portugal will be fascinating to watch as it’s going to be a 50-50 game between 2 teams who on their day are very good combined with some glaring weaknesses that both managers need to address.

Both teams are equally frustrative; on paper both teams have so many talented players but... ..especially the forwards but i think France is the worse one :67 shots 2 own goals 1 penalty . The more entertaining matches are between the non contenders in group stage except Spain and Germany

One of the most boring major tournament in recent times. Pity Copa America is at a time zone that’s inconvenient to most of us in asia . The quality and excitement so much better at the Copa than this Euro for sure

I completely agree. I have watched all Euro tournaments since 2004, and this one is the most boring one so far. Even the last two Euro tournament (2016 and 2020) was not up to mark either. Euro 2012 and Euro 2004 were the best one's in my eyes.

In this tournament everyone can consider themselves as favorites, because almost all the big nations are playing badly. Especially England, France and Portugal. All of them underperformed. Spain is the only big nation which has impressed so far. Germany is doing fine, but not very impressive either.
