Yes we are not fans of power tools here. The guys prefer to hand do everything as so much info is transmitted through your hand - you can feel everything. Its slower and a bit more tedious however we feel you have more control.

Gorgeous piece and an amazing renovation. Love the style of the channel too, very soothing to watch. I can almost smell the inside of that cabinet. My Nan had a piece with a drinks cabinet section and it takes me right back. Sherry whisky wood and dust.

So hard to think the furniture I had as young bride is Antique🤣🤣🤣 You did a beautiful job bringing the teak back to life. The stain worked a miracle. I was surprised you French Polished it because we were told to only use teak oil. You are the expert and it looks stunning now. Thank you for your hard work👏👏👌👌
@TheVintageHub5 ай бұрын
In fairness we don't really think of these items as antique because in many cases they can often appear to be the most modern thing in some houses simply because a lot of 50s to 70 design was advanced way beyond it years when it was made. However we do like the term "Antique dealer" as a reference to our trade - we feel we are a subdivision of this trade so I guess antique can sneak in somewhere - either way thank for commenting. PS: I know Shane and Dean the two restorers prefer polishing as a more durable finish but teak oil I believe is the more traditional way.

Hi again Jonathan - - it really is a lovely piece of furniture. As far as we know it didn't sell in huge numbers so we don't see it come up for sale very often. The way it sits on its legs really gives this piece a stunning overall look so its great for us to get a piece like this and to refresh it so that its next life starts on the right note.

Just found your channel, you have some great content. A lot of people watching you videos are looking to learn how to work on their own pieces. It would be great if you were to include the stain colour you're using, as well as the grade of sandpaper and the type of wax and brand of French polish. All those details are important for your viewers even if they're in a different country to you. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for using other species than just white oak and black walnut. Although those two are beautiful I love all species and it’s nice to see someone willing to use them. Hickory rn is my favorite as hard as it is to work with however I worked with mahogany to make a cheese board out of a variety of patterned hardwoods using Michael Alm’s patterned plywood patterns and anyways it was a joy and so light weight. I hadn’t thought to use it outdoors but I might have to now

do you know if any of these vintage sideboards can be dismantled? I can see that this one has rounded corners so probably glued together in one piece but others have flat panels. Are there any vintage brands that made sideboards which can be dismantled?

Not bad but too shiny, need to dull down. The French polish is not a good defence try using a water based varnish for tougher finish.
@michaelscheffler60735 ай бұрын
looks nice but really only dismantling, sanding and finishing - much prefer pieces with broken this and perished that. Plus was disappointed to hear was only veneer and not solid timber. We all know what that costs these days - if you can get any that's furniture-quality anyway.
@TheVintageHub5 ай бұрын
Hi Michael, Thanks for your comment! I do like those type of videos myself, this was our very first to test the waters! Majority of the furniture manufactured are veneered, very seldom are furniture solid teak or rosewood as the costs in production would be too high. Typically for dining tables and sideboards only the edge is solid material where the rest is veneered. They are still much better quality than majority of the furniture produced today.
