I take a look at Lemon's 2 piece hi hat system. Is this an affordable alternative to the expensive Roland Model? Is this something you might want to include in your electronic or hybrid drum setup?

Hi, I got the lemon snare yesterday , so far so good, seems on par with my pdx12 as far as sensitivity and triggering. Has a nice feel and looks nice, build quality is good , I'll update you when I have it a little longer

That's a decent review! I was hoping you would play out with Scott Walker's "The Shutout". It's a perfect song for the hi hat. I'm sure it's on KZbin somewhere,. Thanks for posting the review, and nice of you to make another for Roland owners too, especially if the Roland that is what, $700+ more doesn't even work on some. Damn nice of you.

This is the second video I watched of yours and they were both very informative. Many thanks! Do you think this could work on the classic Alesis DM10 module? I know Alesis has a similar two piece hi hat controller that is compatible with the DM10 so am assuming it should work. Thanks!

dont be... vh 13 is a amazing hihat, sure this one is great for the price but thats what it is, great for *the price*, your vh13 will last alot longer than this one and will probably still feel alot nicer with some of its features like the pitch bending and just the higher end rubber not that the lemon is bad, its a great hihat but you shouldnt be sad about ordering a vh13 as that is a amazing hihat!

I just got one of those today and they now ship with 2 washers in the box. Seems to me that Lemon takes reviews and criticism seriously and they react quickly.

I think the TD-17KVX hi-hat foot close is way too loud anyway, and I'm using the cymbal that came in the box.

Worst case scenario: you can’t dial it in so you have a new 12” crash cymbal!

I just got ahold of a TD9, and it’s working just fine, so I have no reason tho think you couldn’t get it working with a TD12.

Great reviews! My question is this: I want to gig these hats I'm playing 2-3 gigs per week. Is the 2 piece portable enough for setup/teardown frequently or should I go with the 1 piece model in your opinion? Thanks for any input you could offer.

Thanks for watching! That’s a tough question. As long as you’re not taking the clutch off the top hat, either one should work. The 2 piece is going to look a little better from the audience perspective, but the 1 piece is going to be quicker for set up and tear down. The way the 2 piece has a cable inside the hats and also needs to be Velcroed to the stand to stop rotation is going to add some time and inconvenience. Personally, I’d probably use the 1 piece if I was setting up and tearing down a lot.

Thanks for the perspective on that. I'll take any opportunity to cut down time and gear. As long as the performance is basically the same. I used a VH-11 for years and it I'm guessing this will perform close to that. THANK YOU!!

Thanks so much for the kind words. The two piece has 2 advantages. The first is looks. If you’re playing your electronic kit out, the 2 piece just looks more like what your audience is expecting to see. The second, which may be somewhat imagined, is that the 2 piece feels better when you lay into a loose hi hat with the shoulder of your stick. It feels more natural like playing acoustic hats. As far as responsiveness, once dialed in there isn’t much difference between the two. I will say that the 1 piece top hat works well as a 2 zone cymbal, so if you decide to upgrade to the 2 piece you’ll have a very nice cymbal leftover.

I also have a td 17 ,fits my needs for what I do. I converted all the pad to acoustic with mesh heads using the triggers from pdx 8 pads,and all but one of the cymbals are lemon, now I am thinking about getting a lemon 13 in snare. Have u tried the 13 inch? For the price I think it is worth a shot.

@@mikeydreadmastalski4345 I have reviewed the 10” lemon drum and found it to be a good purchase. I haven’t tried the 13”. I did convert my own 13” acoustic snare using a Goedrum dual trigger I found on Amazon and have been happy with that. I’ll have a review of that coming before too long.

I ordered a lemon 13 in snare, got it from a place called Dolby Drums, he is a great guy to deal with, fair price and great customer service, I highly recommend him. I will let u know how it is when I get it. Price was 199.00 with free shipping .

Hi, can I make you a totally different question I have mounted a kick acoustic patch to be hit in a Roland KD10 and Im not sure if this is something can harm the whole thing or should make not differences. Thanks :)

It won’t harm anything. Some folks put a patch on the bass drum to protect the mesh head, and mesh heads before the KD 10 can get really beat up if you use a felt beater. A patch might prolong the life of the KD10, but it won’t hurt anything. It doesn’t affect responsiveness, but it will add a little volume to the actual sound of the bass drum pedal hitting the patch/head. Happy drumming!
