It might be the most Scenic bus route in the world but it takes 3 hours from Whitby to Leeds so no thank you I would rather get the train it's quicker

Yes well kinda you will need to get a TransPennineExpress train to Middlesbrough then on a northern train to Whitby

It is difficult as there are only 3 trains in each direction.

You can take a train to Malton, from there a short 20 minute bus ride to Pickering. There is then a preserved steam line from Pickering to Whitby.
