The phenomenal...Maya Angelou! She still inspires me. I must read her books every few months, for added inspiration.

Still I Rise Maya Angelou, 1928 - 2014 You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I’ll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? ‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells Pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I’ll rise. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, Weakened by my soulful cries? Does my haughtiness offend you? Don’t you take it awful hard ‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines Diggin’ in my own backyard. You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise. Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I’ve got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs? Out of the huts of history’s shame I rise Up from a past that’s rooted in pain I rise I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise.

Marvelous. She changes me, somehow, with her words, somehow, not once, and it is done, but forward into time with my heart keeping hopeful with its beating for there to be more time to know her better, to hear again her voice. It sits well with my soul. -m

A beautiful, talented amazing, incredibly intelligent human being. I wish I could of met her. What joy that would have been! I love listening to her stories. Her poet’s voice is so calming and very melodic. Maya knew how to live life well. Including her divine spiritual gifts. I would call her sister . God bless

Bill was from Marshall, TX. She was raised in Stamps, Arkansas. He was pointing out that they were raised at the same time very near to one another in small southern towns, but not the same small southern town.

Well if you wanna be like Maya Angelou.....even if the haters were harsh at her I don't think she would wish something mean to them like you did. Yes, it really is sad there are haters, but if you aspire to be like Angelou, don't be so harsh to them

My respect for Bill Moyers suffers terribly from the blatant lie of his presentation, which calls itself: "Full Show: Going Home with Maya Angelou." This, a mere clip of the original, is by no means "full," lasting only 22:06 of the 58:00 of the original TV show aired in 1982. To Bill's shame and the greedy, copyright shame of PBS, the only available version (in 2022) of this historic inspiring video is a VHS version available at Amazon, which is itself incomplete. The full 1982 show, which presented the stunning Angelou to the viewing world, still has the power to do so even though as many as a hundred free KZbin videos compete with the Moyers-Angelou masterpiece.
