"How? You are my grandson. How can I not listen to you and be elevated by you?" When we hear leaders giving hate speech when the young are calling for unity and accountablity we know how far we have strayed from humanity. This is a beautiful interview. This is how the world should be.
@oslo154 жыл бұрын
This struck me as well. “You are my grandson.” It proves her earlier remark that what allowed her to do what she did, and think how she did, was love. Her capacity for loving and respecting others was so great, she couldn’t help but be the icon so many looked-and continue to look-to as a model for what their lives should be.

It was my favorite part, because it was when their opinions were diametrically opposed and there could have been somewhat of a conflict. Dave’s comedy is a lot of n word this n word that. She could have just taken the position of the great elder who can’t be questioned, but she’s wiser than that, she understood that there was truth in what Dave was saying as well, that even if they disagreed, they could both be right, and that she could learn something from him. That shows you she’s not just someone who’s revered for nothing, she’s truly a great mind.

What's very inspiring about Dave is his consciousness. He could have had a rise and fall without his control, riding the waves just to make more money until people just didn't find him funny anymore, but him simply saying he knew things weren't right when someone laughed DIFFERENTLY? I mean... this is a man that knows his craft. And when he smells BS, he knew to walk away. Not many of us can do that, and my appreciation for him grows.

QJAndra How does one “atone” for mistakes? There is no way. Some words can never be atoned for. In fact, to believe that they can be atoned for is to belittle the power of words. Instead, one must change their thoughts. Words and actions will follow. All we can do is ask someone to change. Not to “rectify mistakes”, for no mistake can be fully rectified. We must instead think, speak and act in a manner in which to make the world in line with our new thought patterns.

For people in the comment section ... Katt Williams brought a story about Dave into world that says the following. That Dave had made the studio 500 million dollar with Chappelles show. To which the greedy bussiness men said that: 'he made too much for the contract to be valid'. So they offered him ten percent. To which Dave will have supposedly said: 'what do you think my fans are gonna say, when they hear that you offer me ten percent of what I made you'. They took it as a threat. And in reply they, figuratively speaking, said: you're fans will think that you're a crazy crack head by the time you get home. And before he got back home off the plane from Africa it was sold to all the bug news outlets. His buddy Neil(with whom he made the show): supposedly sold out to lie and keep quite about Dave. And the truth. Dave got publicly demonised, and even blacklisted. As Katt said: 'they decapitated the king in front of us'.

Respect, wisdom and the future come together, for a moment, and part so we all can grow stronger. We have that choice. What a grand spectacle in its simplicity. She touched much that impacted this world, and he is well on his way. Go Dave. Rest well Maya.

Thank you so much for your humility Dave. This is an iconic moment and your wisdom and ability to think, say No, when it counts the most, says a lot about you. Understanding that freedom cannot ever be bought, and betrayal to self is far more painful. One actually liberates oneself, when they give something up for their freedom. Exercising the right to choose, is the most liberating thing one can do, more than any sum of money. Freedom is within and self love and respect is priceless.

Chapelle on the keys....wow "did you know Monk?" Maya knew so many and her handwriting was as beautiful as her words. Amazing woman!

when I watch things like this, it makes me so grateful for the technology of today, for google and youtube and the internet that I can see two of my favorite all time orators, kick it, and converse. it's a true gift.

This was such a great chemistry between these two incredible minds and intellects! I love Dave because his material is aways from another sphere then down to earth. I love Dr. Maya Angelou because her thoughts are from deep beneath the earth up through another sphere! Outstanding! Now, I think I'll watch it again. I was so hurIt when I heard she had passed, I just hope we can start appreciating our legends more...while they are here! Nothing better than that kind of wisdom! Thanks for blessing us Dr. Angelou! Your words and wisdom lives on!! Continued success Dave!!!

That was really impressive and insightful; a great match-up. I had no idea that Dave could play the piano, yet somehow I can't say I'm surprised. Maya Angelou is truly an awe-inspiring individual who can move you to tears with her choice of words. That Tupac story was so beautiful.

I couldn't get through this without crying. I had the honor of meeting her in NYC prior to her transitioning. She's regal. A master teacher. Dave is a national treasure. One of greatest voices of our generation. I'm so proud to be a Black American. We've been through and go through a lot and we're still here, thriving. Be proud. We are so much more.

I remember when this aired on The Sundance Channel. It floored me. Greatest episode of Iconoclasts hands down. To see it again today, to hear Dr. Maya Angelou's words again, I feel it even more.
