Roger, if you're reading this: I retrained at 55 y/o and graduated w/ a RN license at 57 y/o. The work is hard but it's lucrative. Most acute care facilities are trying to hold their older workers rather than encouraging them to retire. After a couple of years experience in my field, I could work on desk if I want which will expend my work-longevity. Is the medical field for you? If it is, there are a variety of jobs (respiratory, ultrasound, etc) you can train for in 2-3 years and work anywhere in the country for almost as long as you want. If the medical world isn't for you, there a lot of fields you can chose from and just need some training. Don't give up and good luck.

I had a traumatic enough experience using the “avoid toll” option on the gps in West Virginia that now I’m afraid to avoid. It sent us down scary mountain roads that were supposed to be 2 way but not really wide enough for 2 full size vehicles. It was awful. I thought I was going to fall off the mountain and die.

Be aware that adding the rental car license plate to your E-Z Pass account is no longer an option at some car rental companies. I used to do this routinely when traveling to avoid having to carry my E-Z pass tag when renting a car. On my last 2 car rentals, when I attempted to add the rental car license plate to my E-Z Pass account, I received an error saying that the license plate number I entered was already registered to another E-Z Pass account. I thought maybe the person who rented that vehicle before me did the same thing and forgot to delete the plate from their E-Z pass account. But when I got hit with the $25 fee plus toll from the car rental company, I realized that wasn't the case.

Re: tolls. I have two transponders - EZPass from NC since I live in NC and get a 35% discount, but it works in 19 states including Florida. Same as the Florida transponder Clark talked about. I also have a transponder from Colorado. Although I'm not a fan of tolls, I really like my travel transponders. I typically fly to Denver and drive - another 3ish hours to Nebraska. Paying the $4.00 toll with my personal transponder is so much better than adding another 45-minute commute to my travel and not to mention, avoiding traffic congestion for the most part. I also travel to Tampa FL and use my NC EZPass there. Again, just nice to pay a few bucks and bypass the congestion and have a direct route to my destination vs. taking a long roundabout. Definitely not a fan of tolls but sometimes they are the lesser of two evils. Edit: I have yet to use my NC EZPass in NC. Although I have tolls around me, haven't had the need. Used more in neighboring states. Did drive to NH from NC and it saved about 8 hours in travel time for about $30ish in tolls.

It's the age-old question - are you willing to spend money for convenience or save money for inconvenience? You & Clark are on opposite sides of the spectrum. 😂💚

I just used my transponder in a rental - it worked for 3 tolls but not the 4th. As long as I showed that other tolls charged to my account during the rental period, they said they will refund the charge but not the toll. Unfortunately that means I have to pay the non transponder price even though THEY were charged the discounted price to their corporate account .

Tolls: Denver has HOV lanes with toll charges. The traffic isn't any better in the HOV lanes, from what I've seen. And, on the east side of town, they have built-in back road short cuts that bypass the exorbitant fees of the E-470 toll road.

I just saw a video about senior discount cell phone plans.We just switched from ATT to Consumer Cellular .We thought we had done so well getting our 1 GB of data for our 2 phones for base cost of $35.00 ( fees, surcharges =total $45 monthly). But now on this list of Sr discounts I learned about a SPECIAL SENIOR NATION 200 plan for 65+ for $19.95 monthly( not sure if other fees are added to that) Wondering now if we should ask ATT about this Sr discount ? Wondering what the 200 plan is vs our 1 GB ( no penalty if we do go over)
@Clark2 ай бұрын
200MB vs 1GB is a big drop in data. 1GB=1,000MB, so you're really comparing 200MB vs 1,000MB. If you don't use your phone a lot, it may suffice for you. We recommend going to your phone "settings" -> "connections" -> "data usage." This is the perfect time to do it, since we're at the end of the month. If your data usage is under 200MB for the month, you may be able to downgrade. If it's higher, 200MB may not be enough data for you. Be sure to check both phones on the plan because one person may be using significantly more data than the other. Hope this helps! 💚

Curious I've never tried it but since many people use electronic deposits of checks using their phone app. If someone emails you a photo of a check can you upload the photo as a deposit to avoid regular mail?
@Clark2 ай бұрын
Hmmm, 🤔 good question! You may have to take some additional steps because most banking apps don't allow you to "upload" a photo. You can only take a picture of the check with your phone. So, if someone emails a front and back photo of the check, you'll have to print it out (in color), cut it out (check size), and take a photo of it through your app. 🤷♂

You can at least with an android phone use your camera and over it over the QR code it will show you what the address is to confirm that it is correct. however with that said manually entering an address only works if your going to a legitimate address instead of a fake one. So still requires understanding how web addresses work etc.

I run a car rental company, and we get an average of 400 to 600 toll notices and tickets per month. The time it takes to look up, copy, write letters, mail violations, follow up to make sure they are paid and then sometimes even pay the tolls is immense. Also, sometimes when we get a notice from the toll issuer, there are fees added by them that can sometimes be over $100. In DC, speed camera violations can be $500, and they double if not paid promptly. So perhaps you should tell people to be more responsible when they do go through a toll and pay a violation notice promptly. Oh, and the customer initials at the onset of the rental that they will pay a toll violation plus a $40.00 administrative fee. It's very costly for rental companies to deal with tickets and that's what justifies the fees.
@retired84842 ай бұрын
