Heel commentators work well if they bring humor to the broadcast - thinking of Bobby Heenan or Jim Cornette. As much as I respect Sky and Idol (for their wrestling careers), they don't really help in the calling of the match. A good heel doesn't need a cheering section at the broadcast table.
