The 180-page Forward Singapore report unveiled on Friday (Oct 27) includes a greater helping hand for groups such as those who are less well-off, mid-career workers and seniors. It also articulated the mindset shifts required for Singapore to achieve the goals set out, such as for wider definitions of success and a stronger sense of collective responsibility towards one another.

Once you are 45, 50, 55 or retired; not many industries would take in - so going for more upgrading or courses does not guarantee job emplacement but instead could fear wasting personal savings meant for day-to-day livelihood, bills etc........ Yes, there are SkillFuture Funds but not much to be used, so the endpoint is using your own savings, that is what the government wanted - suck out your money.

In the past, when iron rice bowls were more common, greed, blinding ambition and impatience drove the young to job hop for short term monetary gains in order to secure their unnecessary wants. Now that the working society has essentially devolve into a revolving door concept, the no longer young start to realise they are not that marketable anymore and can no longer sustain their lifestyle. Older, inexperienced and very expensive to hire. People need to be taught the value of financial discipline & responsibility since young. I'm afraid by the time one hits 45, 50 then start realising this, it's very likely too late already.

For me, it is not about housing. It is about jobs, good jobs for Singaporeans. Good jobs will take care of housing and retirement on itself. Sadly, nothing material has changed over the last few years. The retraining grants are a joke. How many people manage to find new jobs with the $1000 retraining grant? Let’s not waste money there.

Skills are not useful when they only create jobs for the instructors and their assistants. It's a cycle, you take courses or top up the skills courses with your own monies and the ball soon starts rolling. The economy moves forward but how many trainee - people gain from the spinoffs.

What a joke! Living costs at record high and yet keep increasing tax. The middle class is squeezed dry. A simple family car cost a lifetime savings. Rich can have multiple cars parked around and the rest can't afford a simple car. You call that moving forward together? In fact Singapore is the most taxed place in the world. If Forward Singapore’s intention is indeed to find solutions for what Singaporeans had already told the government ten years ago, does it mean that the government has no solutions or idea of how to address those issues? And that this initiative is an attempt to crowdsource ideas that the government with the highest paid civil servants in the world can then use to perform their job? If the above is untrue, then people will surely wonder why then the government has little or nothing to address those problems since the SG Conversation took place and at the same time, if Forward Singapore would end up in the same manner.

Going regionalisation and overseas requires Singapore leaders to be in the lead in the singapore companies so they can take the lead to groom their countrymen. Otherwise most of the positions won’t be held by Singaporeans and all efforts mentioned here will be fruitless. We also ask the government to identify the current people based overseas and match them to a role that matches with forward singapore. There is a large group of people that heel the government call in 2003-2006 that can take the lead and contribute

I will answer to the best of my knowledge as I have volunteered although sparsely. I think Mr Chan in fact is right as I have realized that young people do want to be part of the solution and regarding Ministry of Health and the usual late timeframe realizing mental health issues when it falls on MOH lap, it might be best to be on the ground and work together with schools regarding mental health issues.
