I'm in support of this. Power needs to be decentralized so that each region and by extension state government can have more control over her resources and who has access to them. The indigenes of these states will also be forced to hold their Governors,Senators,HoR,LG Chairmen accountable instead of migrating to states that are better governed, indirectly giving free passes to repeated failed state governments. The devolution of power to subnationals also ensures conservationism.

But, I'd appreciate it if someone out there can translate, or interpret what Soyinka was saying here. I have absolutely no clue what all of his "mumbo jumbo" was all about. Soyinka should've realized that the ordinary hungry Nigerian on the street wouldn't understand/ relate to all dis oyinbo wey him dey blow. Yeah, I'm not saying that he doesn't mean well. I'm simply saying..... Nigerians no understand all dis grammar. Soyinka should've made this address in broken English.

The irony is that the English native speakers themselves do not speak or listen to long grammer aka ogonogo oyibo which they derisively call "gobbledegook". Even the highly educated ones are campaigning for plain English whereas in Nigeria,'s alternate universe, the opposite is the case: the more you obfuscate, the cleverer you are assumed to be.

Beyond rhetorics is the moral consistency of dealing with corruption in Nigeria. We all remember during president Jonathan’s administration all manner of people had the audacity to say whatever they liked but now, most of those people have now lost their tongues to speak truth to power. This is part of the irony of life in Nigeria. In all of these, time remains the faithful arbiter of truth when we fail to judge the facts correctly. The circle of evil and injustice simply repeats rhythmically in a culture where truth remains elusive.

Because 5 military officers of a certain tribe in Nigeria planned and executed a first military coup d'etat in Nigeria that obviously took more lives from other tribes than their own tribe, if any. They claimed it was to restore the kind of governing order they'd like to see after all the turmoil from the political class. It turned out another certain tribe in Nigeria lost more lives in the coup d'etat and decided to strike back 6 months later. The rest is now some of the history you and I and the rest of us watching Wole Soyinka speak are currently living.

Decentralization or State control, where each State develops their resources, and controls 100% of their resource revenue is the only way Nigerian economy will diversify, create economic opportunities, and rescue Nigeria from further descent into insecurity and chaos. That is the practice in advanced economies. Instead, Nigeria crippled itself with centralized economic system that makes every State equal, thereby killing progress, and nationalizing poverty.

If the economies of the United States, Canada or Germany were structured like Nigeria's, they, too, would be failed States like Nigeria. We are doing it WRONG!!! Everything is upside-down, starting from our over-centralized economic structure. When I discuss this topic with Nigerians living in Nigeria, they would argue with me because they read books and obtained Masters Degree. The reality is not quite the same as text books. In fact, if you relocate to advanced countries, and want to understand the economic system, it will take you more than 10 years to grasp the nuances of Advanced economies.

I thought Igbos want Biafra Republic isn't and Soyinka is championing their cause. Why are they all in pain? Or, they do not want to go their separate ways again? Nigeria can actually divide peaceful if that would resolved all our problems.

Peter Obi contested in the last presidential election and lost like Atiku Abubakar. The supporters of Peter Obi came to watch this video to attack Wole Soyinka because he said he didn't vote for any of the candidates because he was outside the country when the elections held. The question is: Even if he was in the country, must everyone support and vote for Peter Obi, especially if they don't like his message no matter how promising he sounded?

Prof Soyinka is hanging on a very skinny integrity. Salt has lost it's taste!! Nigerians are now wiser and connot be fooled anymore by pretence and deceit or even big grammar. Thanks Bat for making know these men better.
