The fact that the parents knew, and even called OP regarding the wedding date, is proof enough the brother also knew. At the time they had that discussion the trip was still being planned. There could have been some changes with the trip.

I mean, the whole point was that they were given eight months in advance. If they're complaining about not being able to attend the wedding, then it was their own fault. Whether or not the story is real, it's obvious that the parents in the story favor the brother. Seems like they did this on purpose.
