You’ve done it sir! You’ve created the greatest video there is on tuning a bow. Simple, thorough, and confident. Thank you for this service dude!!
@papaschuette Жыл бұрын
Outstanding video Brother. I have a PSA for everybody. Installing a new string and cable are pretty straight forward. I recommend taking pictures and measurements before you take anything off your bow. Much easier to put back on the right way. When replacing the string and cable, I would steer away from the portable cable presses. Go with a ratcheting strap system. You can't tell if the inner strands of the cable are compromised in any way. At least with a strap, it is way easier to keep an eye on. The reason I say avoid the cable style is because I just got about a third of my left thumb ripped off on November 15th because a cable press snapped when I was taking the string off my bow. My thumb got pulled in between the string and the cam. I lost the part from right at the nail bed to the end. It still isn't completely healed yet either. I'm still gonna be shooting bows for sure. This injury isn't bad enough to stop me from hunting. Just please be careful with the cable presses.

I built the same draw board thirty years ago after reading Larry Wise's complete book of bow tuning. 2x4 and a boat winch and I screwed a yard stick onto the 2x4 so the deepest part of the handle riser is at "0" to get true draw length. Anyways really enjoy these kinds of videos, working on cam timing, working on turning the bow etc. Keep up the informative vids!!!

Hi Jack, if it can help, I own three older Hoyts (a 2010 Turbohawk, a 2014 Carbon Spyder Turbo, just like that one, and a 2015 Nitrum 30). They all run exactly 1/4" long on DL, the Carbon Spyder is indeed the one with the most spongy backwall, but the reason may be that it has a #3 cam with a 28 1/2 module, while the Nitrum (also a z5 cam) has a #2 cam with a 28" module. The let off and peak weight respect the advertised specs on both bows, and so do axle to axle lenght and BH. Lastly, I'm not able to archive a perfect bullet hole with any of these Hoyts unless I remove the grip; if I do so, I can shot bullet holes through paper (fletched and bare shaft) all day long. With older Hoyts I suggest to set the rest in such a way that the bottom of the shaft runs through the center of the berger hole, at 90 degree, center shot 13/16" and start tuning from there. Ciao !!!

1 big tip is to change your strings when you actually have all of the resources you need like a bow press, a bow, and Average Jack Archery videos of course. May sound stupid but I was so bored with waiting for a part that I had my cables and string out for a few weeks and that was plenty of time to get a ton of twists accidentally in, which you then forget when the cables started from. Even when you are taking the strings out, make sure to not twist them as a little twist can go a long way.

Whats the average cost to replace a string and cable on a compound bow.
@MusicMinisterJP73 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'd like to ask you two questions, 1- What is, adjusting cam timing? 2- Is it normal for the peep sight to angle to the right, when string is relaxed, and straight when pulled? If not, what does it signify? My strings are not frail. This is a 2007 Martin Magnum Bengal, with original strings. Please be explicit, thanks.
@averagejackarchery3 жыл бұрын
1. Cams rotating the same and coming to full draw at the same time. 2. Peep twist is okay as long as it twists straight when you're at full draw.

Hey Nate, I could use a little help. I bought my first bow this year a Mathews v3 31. I’ve got about 5-600 arrows through it and am not happy with the stock zebra strings. This bow after 350 shots went back to the ship to check everything and within the last 150-200 shots as become very noisy with a twang I feel is all string. It’s currently at the shop timing is good and poundage was at 59.8 as I’m shooting 60 with a 27” draw. I have them putting ABB platinum strings on it at this point but I’m kinda unhappy about it since I just got it 2 months ago. Am I correct with the correction of the noise with string replacement? Can you even guess that through the inter webs??? Thanks from a fellow PA boy/old guy

do you pay need to pay attention to the riser when timing cams, as far as being plumb? ive noticed on my ez green draw board the riser is not plumb up and down when drawn back and if i correct it with a torpedo level it changes the cable stop positions.
