Just did this , shot arrows at 30 yards with broad head . Nock tuned until they were bullets, then shot them at 40 and if they were bullets then arrows are good . If not , went back to 30 and made slight adjustments till bullets , then 40 again. Had 3 out of 9 arrows not behave well so they are strictly target arrows. Thanks for info!

Excellent and easy to follow tuning method. I need to make a paper tuning stand then do the same process with my on the heavier side of the bell 🔔 curve arrow (511 grain with standard nock, little more with the lighted nock. 11.25 gpi because of the camo wrap) for my 60 lb bow at 29 in draw. I tried the Magnus Stinger Buzzcut 100 grain with that arrow setup and they planed often. So did the other two blade I tried. Not sure 🤔 why? Great shooting by the way. I wish that my 15 or 20 yard groups look like your 40.

I used to do something similar when I couldn’t afford nice matched arrows for my bows and crossbow… I would Go to Walmart when they put all of the loose arrows out, And I would buy maybe 15 of them. I would fire them all at a target, and identify which ones would not group with the rest of the pack. I would return those ones and swap them out for others. Then I would repeat the process until I had a batch of arrows that all grouped nicely. I would then identify one or two of the arrows that consistently hit in the center of the group, and kept those as my “control” arrows. I used them as my gold standard to compare other arrows or configurations against to judge if they would all hold the same point of impact.

Jack, I like the logic on taking/arrow and seeing the flight then unscrewing the broadhead and placing on another!!!! This really gives rise to the trouble maker and then you can proceed to possibly nock tune!!!! I'm shooting SEVR broadheads. The question I have is because the SEVR is approximately 2 inches long, my length of arrow is 29 inches, can this CHANGE my dynamic setup to where it weakens the spine????? Thanks Jack
@pensnut083 жыл бұрын
Following Nate's tips and advice... Even I am getting MUCH better arrow flight.. I bare shaft paper tuned and got.... BULLET HOLES YIPPEEE!!!!!!!!! I have actually noticed my arrows are hitting the targets harder. I can hear the difference and I can see the targets moving. I must be doing it right because I was shooting broadheads today. 125 grain heads. A Magnus Stinger Buzzcut and a Slick Trick Magnum and with both heads.. Same point of impact. Those heads are not exactly the same LOL Next up is my Obsession Hemorrhage DE. That is set up at a higher draw weight and I am easing back to shooting that one. Hell, I am just happy I can draw ANY bow again :) Thanks again for all the great info!!

great video. wrt paper tuning: it can drive people nuts if they do the paper tuning by shooting the bow too close to the paper (might not have enough room in the garage etc.). For paper tuning it is crucial to understand that every arrow will bend at launch, thus if you are too close, you will see a tear - even if the bow is perfectly tuned it would be a vertical tear. When moving away from the paper the arrow will recover from the initial buckling (even without fletching with the correct spine) and will produce a bullet hole. Hence paper tuning only works if you are a few arrow lengths away from the paper.
@averagejackarchery3 жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3ncopx6rqt5jqc Even at 8-12ft the arrow will still flex. And yet, will snake for a bullet hole.
@WM-jy9dz3 жыл бұрын
@@averagejackarchery yes, because the amplitude of the buckling is now much smaller. As the arrow isn't propelled anymore by the acceleration due to the string (the arrow has to fly on the KE he got from the initial acceleration) the buckling is decreasing now due to the inner friction the buckling movement causes the further away the arrow is. Take your well tuned arrows and bow and shoot them through paper with the tip of the arrow just an inch away from the paper and you should see a vertical tear. Eta: hm,...just tested it in my garage - the tear really barely differs from a bullet hole (I couldn't get close enough as I didn't want to remove the sight), but I can see if the bow is well tuned and you don't get a bullet hole the distance from the paper is very likely not the cause.... so I debunked my own theory here 😀. Eta: ...call me a nerd... I'm just tested it with 1 to 1.5 x arrow lengths away from the paper and there I get the vertical tear, not a big tear, but now clearly noticeable ...further away and it becomes again a bullet hole and stays a bullet hole when increasing the distance further 😁

Yes! It definitely can be used with crossbows too. The biggie with crossbows is making sure the cams are "in time" just a regular bow. that will greatly affect broadhead flight.
@halfstep672 жыл бұрын
Tuning is relative meaning that one can only tune as well as they can shoot. The better one can shoot, the better one can tune. This is why a lot of guys don't/won't paper tune. They can't get bullet holes even if the bow is tuned to shoot them. So, they go to another "tuning" method so they can feel like their bow is tuned. Today's short ATA high let-off bows can be a little touchy to tune and may require some experimenting with grip position and draw length to get good paper tune results. A lot of guys are over-bowed and struggle to shoot with repeatable form. They may start out shooting good but quickly fatigue after 15-20 shots and their form starts breaking down. Start strong, finish strong. Shoot managable poundage.

If you shoot with the cock feather up, the bottom of the shaft is perfectly smooth (no paint or arrow decal sliding across your rest). I also like their ICE coating. My local archery shop set these arrows up with slightly heavier brass inserts, & I have been extremely pleased.
