New subscriber here. Great flower gardens . It’s obvious you love the perennials which I’m into. BTW even though you’re a Carolina gardener you give off a New York / Jersey vibe . Being from NYC and now living in NJ I would bet big money that you lived in this area at some point for an extensive amount of time.
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
Haha - you're right! I guess there's no hiding it, is there. I lived in NY for most of my life. 😄 Also, yes, I feel like you get more bang for your buck with perennials, and I love plants that multiply on their own.

Hi, neighbor. I am down near Holden Beach. I also have no shade to speak of and extremely sandy soil. It was interesting to see what plants are doing well for you. I think I need some of that blanket flower.😊
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Great to hear from someone close by! Oh yes, definitely get some blanket flowers. Worth the investment because they multiply like crazy and they like our soil as-is. 😊 Do you have anything I don't have that I should look for? 😁

@@mycarolinagarden I am new to my current property and creating from almost scratch. My prize plants are two Lady Banks Roses - a yellow flowering and a white flowering. Lady Banks is a very vigorous rose that can handle sandy soil and humidity.

Your gardens are gorgeous! Looks like you're getting winds off the ocean. I lived on Cape Cod and know what that's like trying to garden. You obviously have the perfect soil.
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, we definitely get the coastal breeze, some days intensely. The soil here stinks though. Very sandy and lacks nutrients, so it's one of the things I work hard at. 😕 Ahh, Cape Cod ❤️

@@mycarolinagarden We moved from the Cape to Georgia where the temps are blistering hot with drenching humidity. Gardening here is quite a challenge. Miss the Cape.

@@mycarolinagarden Yes, winter here is cold, we had snow the first year we were here I made a snowman for my 4 Ragdoll cats who were born here. I really can't say anything nice about Georgia weather. Today, the "feel like" temp is 105 with wicked humidity. Stay cool up there, wish we had your ocean breezes.😎

Gorgeous gardens! I will be on the lookout for the balloon flower for sure. I am your neighbor up here in coastal VA. Do you have issues with the lily beetle in your garden? I planted some lilies and not sure what to expect.
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes I like the balloon flower for its color. It's easy to find warm-toned flowers, but not as easy to get those purples or blues. I don't get lily beetles, but I do have problems with Japanese beetles 😕 (not on my Lilies though). My Lilies have been pest and disease free and easy maintenance, so I hope you have the same good fortune!!
@McJiver Жыл бұрын
I love that primrose. Its just doing its own thing very natural looking. Im wondering if its aggressive/ invasive... The Magnolia is getting plenty of sun so it must be a nutrients issue. Or maybe it got winter damage in December like we had on some plants in VA.
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
The primrose is gorgeous, but I am very careful about not letting it get too crazy as yes, it's an aggressive spreader. Luckily each little plant that pops up has its own little root system, so it's easy to pull up. As for the Magnolia, it has always been a bit of a dud with blooms, so sounds like nutrients then? 😕
@McJiver Жыл бұрын
@My Carolina Garden You mentioned that your soil was sandy. That's my only clue. Compost under the mulch early spring may help. If not, you may need to dig the tree up some and replace the soil with a richer mixture.

Great question! I am not 100% sure, but i believe my Dahlias are probably either: a) Gerrie Hoek or b) Flashback Dahlia They are definitely not a rare type, and they do come back as perennials for me in zone 8.

How do you keep weeds out your garden and lawn.... sending you love from sunny Jamaica
