Full Target line fight with spears | Berlin Buckler Bouts XVII

We tried to reconstruct early medieval line combat with a full target zone. Of course, the non-sharp weapons and flexible spears bring some limitations to the conclusion of this experiment. The most prominent hit zones were the face, throat the chest.
I (blue pants) tried out some sliding techniques with a 2,1m one-handed spear.

Nice experiment you should do one with multiple ranks next.Have the people with swords and axes at the front and the guys with the spear and shield in the back.

Full target??? Without protection on your enemy you can't use the swords effective. For me only the mask and gloves seem a target for a swordman.

Yeah a valid point of course, focus was more on "What happens when the face is included"!

Hm. I admire enthusiasm, but full protection is mandatory for "full target fight". So far it's only gentle touching. But better than sitting on the sofa :)

Fair enough but I would still argue, that you learn a lot about the type of posture and shield cover you would use if the whole body is threatened. But yeah, the sword fighter is at a disadvantage here, hit zone wise.

@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat Even those vertical blows that are made unknowingly or the sliding over the body with razor-sharp spear point and edges does an enormous job. Scary weapon.

Sheepdog, when you try to strike legs, you need to go down with your body. It create a opening in your posture and your enemy just strike your head or your shoulders. Plus, legs are agile and hard to aim.
