It really has. I know i have replaced 98% of my pneumatic tools and I think all of my corded tools, are all now cordless. But I keep a lot of my corded and air tools in a cabinet in case, because sometimes, you burn through all your batteries.

how well does it cut rebar? the problem with battery powered masonry tools is most of their job sites wont have easy accessible power for charging so if you have to run a generator you might as well just stick with the gas tools. its the same reason gas powered drills and impact wrenches are still in production

I have been told that rebar in concrete is actually softer, then concrete itself all about the blade agreed sometimes don't have access to a plug heat and cold have great effects on battery life also

Electric motors will always have more torque than a combustion engine. This is the reason locomotives are diesel electric. The diesel generators produce the electricity to power an electric motor to pull a train. Really cool tests, Stan!

Makita has always made great great stuff. Problem is not ENOUGH great great stuff. They are more focused on construction industry. Currently MIlwaukee is only maker that allows me to stay on one battery platform. Kinda. I use their 12V a M18 platforms.

Stan should of used same blade on both saws im sure battery saw has a better blade in it looked like a 200 plus blade compared to a 80 dollar blade could definitely make difference in performance

Instead of 4 stroke use a 2 stroke, electric obviously has more torque as well as 4 stroke but rpm's from a 2 stroke won't last as long but it's a saw not a car.

side by side comparison with the rock. Your first cut with the battery powered saw on the boulder. You let the saw do the work. The first cut on the boulder you immediately opted to just over bear the saw to make it stall. this was not a fair comparison. I work for a company that cut's concrete as a primary business. Flat saws, wire saws, wall saws, core drilling etc. We tried one of these Makita electric saws. It does not measure up to the gas power saws that we use. Which are not Makita brand gas saws. We returned the saw. We bought the Milwaukee Battery powered saw. Much better saw. And can run a standard blade. Also I would like to point out that the Milwaukee saw. The battery slides in the top. Not the sides. The largest battery offered for the Makita saw sticks out far enough to rub your leg. Uncomfortable. And just for sake of argument. We tested the Husqvarna electric saw. Which was worse than the Makita.

What's truly needed is a universal battery that can be used in different brands because some Milwaukee tools are better than Makita and some Makita tools are better than DeWalt etc... These battery systems being only for one manufacturer is total BS. Someone needs to invent an adapter so batteries are interchangeable for the different tools or the tool manufacturers have to stop being obstinate. Really not interested in this battery garbage until that changes.

I would submit, from experience, that the AFT technology isn’t for the saw, it’s for the user’s safety, but MAKITA DOES NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT. I have am MM4 that I was cutting a block wall with about a year and a half ago and it bound up, shot itself out of the wall, flipped out of my hands and put a rib deep 12 inch long gash into my right pec. It took hundreds of stitches. Two doctors working alternating patching me up for over two hours. When I wanted to return the saw, MAKITA wanted to know why because the Amazon return period was past, so I told them. I immediately got a call from Makita’s lawyer wanting pictures and the medical records. Was it to reimburse me for the ER visit? Nope. They weren’t going to do ANYTHING. They just wanted to get all the info they could in case I wanted to sue Makita. Their lawyer wanted me to sign a document fully exonerating Makita for the design (the torque and power with nothing that stops the blade from spinning if it binds up. If I signed, AND shipped the saw back to them, they would “give” me an equal value in other Makita tools. I wouldn’t sign and I didn’t send the saw back. In my opinion all that lawyer was trying to do was cover up. AND THIS VIDEO, extolling the great AFT feature that stops the blade from spinning if it binds up feels like total validation of my suspicion that Makita has had many people injured by the MM4 saw, but wouldn’t alter the design because they would be tantamount to admitting liability. THIS SAW is tantamount to admitting liability if you ask me. My prediction is that Makita will soon declare the electric 14” saw so superior to the gas that they simply discontinue to gas version. This gets them off the hook that discontinuing it because it’s so dangerous would cause them. If they discontinued it for safety reasons, they’d be vulnerable to lawsuits from all the people on the past injured by these MM4 saws. THIS WAY, Makita can claim that they’re discontinuing the MM4 because they made such a new and improved version. WHY ELSE not even MENTION that the AFT technology is a GREAT SAFETY FEATURE? Makita can’t. Because there is nothing equivalent on the MM4 that they have sold thousands of. I wonder just how many people have been seriously injured, or even killed using one of those saws? If that blade had of big me 3” higher, in the neck, I may have bled to death, in front of my 17 year old son. Any lawyers reading this who know how to put together a class action lawsuit, feel free to contact me.

AFT is on Makita’s larger heavy duty tools to not only protect the tool from damage but also the operator from injury. AFT hasn’t ever been available on their Gas Powered Tools because it’s not a compatible system for Gas Powered Tools. Sorry you got hurt and glad that you made a full recovery from your injuries but a lawsuit for this isn’t likely to go anywhere. Most likely the cause would be attributed to improper use of the tool.

No tennis shoes, no goggles or OSHA required respirator mask makes this whole video an invitation to a disaster. Water does not stop all silica dust from being respirable. You need to use a different diamond bond when cutting rocks vs porous concrete. The rock will destroy hard bond diamond wheels due to glazing and the soft diamond bond wheel will wear too fast in the concrete. No wearing needed safety gear is a terrible idea when a diamond segment flies off.

I'm calling BS I put a 👎 on this one we have a Milwaukee the battery is a humongous and three of those batteries wouldn't last as long as all day running gas powered chopp Saw and something suspicious about how the salesman said that 40 volt battery will work on a 125 + but when he made the statement about new tools every month it was the amount of pause and the gas he took that said for this do we have to be that precise not to be lied to I think we do we have to call him out on every little thing hey speaking of which what if you ran that loader backwards on those aluminum car ramps would crush under under the weight I have not expected to see those ramps carry the full weight of that loader even I don't believe that's possible but hey if you're going to test it stand up saying I think you need to redo that test just back that thing up back it up like you said let's go let's go 😁🤣😜👍

Not a fan of Makita. Personal experience is the tools do not last, even had one not working right out of the box. Was told it had to go back for warranty coverage. There is zero Makita in my workshop.
