Thank you Jim for the reality of investing I am 10 years from retiring from the construction industry and am thinking of a 10 year plan to gradually build a business and investment inventory in order to have a supplementary income and a way to use my time productively during retirement I’d be curious to hear your feedback or even a vlog about this strategy also I feel I’ve looked at it realistically as a 10 year plan Thank you

You can maybe sell it on Ebay for full retail. You're going to pay 13% in fees + shipping costs. You can charge the buyer shipping, but they won't pay full retail on Ebay plus shipping if they can get it from Amazon for full retail with free shipping. So now you're sitting on these sets for a looong time before they retire and increase in value over retail. Don't get me wrong.. you got a good deal.. but not the kind of deal where you're gonna make a lot of money by flipping them.

Buy collections from people for as cheap as you can get it. Sell valuable minifigs and complete sets on Ebay or somewhere else with a big online market. Sell the pieces as bulk for about $6/lb. Reinvest the money into buying more collections. Go to garage sales. They can be a gold mine. I bought a Winter Village set used for $30, flipped it for $230. I bought the architecture fallingwater set used for $70.. flipped it for $250. I bought the Boeing 787 set used for $55... flipped it for $230. These were all from garage sales. I just recently bought 13 Classic Space sets with boxes and instructions for $430 (FB Marketplace)... I haven't sold them yet, but I will make a lot on those. I do this all the time. I spent $1300 last week on used Lego. And I tell ya what I will make a helluva lot more profit on that $1300 than this guy or anyone spending $1300 on retail Lego. And I won't have to wait 5 years for it to retire... it's already retired. You won't make very much at all buying retail sets as investments. You'll just end up with shelves full of unopened boxes to look at. I buy clearance Lego and let it sit on a shelf (cuz I can't pass up a Lego deal)... but it mostly sits on a shelf when I do that. That is not the way to making quick money with Lego. Buy from the secondary market. Last fall I found the Rebels Phantom set new in the box for $12. It's selling for $120 last I checked. Trying doing that buying from Wal-mart, Target or Amazon. It's not happening.

Question: What type of sets should I buy if I wanted to invest in Lego? Not looking to make a living from it but do it as a hobby/side hustle. Even if I earn $25 here or $50 there ROI. The goal then would be to invest the profit into the stock market and use the original purchase funds to buy more Lego.

The danger with this is that if Lego decide to go after resellers, you are done, if you sell on AMZ.... Well they could just decide to gate lego again and ask for invoices again. I personnally do sell lego, it is my best seller, but since I am full time, I also have suppliers and sell a ton of stuff at 20-30-40% ROI PLUS a bunch of lego. I dont think anyone should only sell one product, unless they also have other businesses. Go wide, diversify, think about exit plans and do the math, often!

Good point. Ebay just started arbitrarily ending my lego listings. If you get that on amz or ebay it could be a death sentence. Be careful dumping your life savings on this.

Oh boy, I'm earning around 10-11k $ a year, and here where I live this is not that bad. 50 thousand a year would make me quite rich. :D Of course I don't live in the USA. Damn it.

Great vid mate. Maybe do a calculation where some of your purchases have to be held 18 and 24 months. So 1/3 sold each year at say 150 ROI, I think that maybe more realistic and demonstrate the retirement rate ? Thanks

full time? you need at least a million at least, and lego is hard to get, you cant just call lego here in canada, they wont sell to you has retailers. You have to be in a buying groups, which you need to buy other than lego too

I would use watchcount sold only filter to see the real ebay sell prices. Just showing amazon going price doesnt mean much. Lego reselling can be pretty dangerous and if you just put it in the stock market the past year or two you prob wouldve made more.

You're exactly right. This is a pipedream. If you have $80,000 do not invest it in retail-priced Lego. You'll just have a huge room of your house filled with unopened Lego boxes and even if you did all the work to offload them via Ebay, locally, or whatever avenue you're barely going to break even after fees, shipping, etc. You're better off buying Dogecoin or a meme stock.
