I think the best way to sale propane is by the pound. lots of times we empty our tanks and flip the the other tank but sometimes you just want to top up your tank if you know you are going to be away for awhile. Or you know you can fill where propane is less money so you top up to save. Thanks for what you do, love the content and take care.

The only time we've not paid by gallon for propane is when we do a tank exchange for our portable 20lb tank. We've found that Tractor Supply stores always have propane tanks for refilling our rig (a 40lb tank). Love stations also have propane refill. The best deals we've found are at welding supply businesses.

If you can find a TSC where you are traveling they usually have the cheapest prices for propane. They will fill your tank if only you need a gallon. And just charge you for a gallon

16 mile round trip to save on propane, would need to save $4 due to fuel for the round trip.. Usually cheaper to buy at the camp ground.

True! We feel the same about mobile pump trucks. Sometimes it’s actually cheaper to have them come to us.

I always take my tanks to a place that charges me for the propane I actually get, usually a TSC or a local propane supplier.

Absolutely have to shop around for LP. We have 4-5 places within a 4 mile radius and the prices can differ upwards of 35 cents a gallon sometimes. Have you bought any by the pound instead of gallons anywhere in your travels?
@TheBorderHookups11 ай бұрын
Is it usually by the pound instead of the gallon? I know that they always weigh our tanks.

Enjoyed your video. I grew up in that area, went to UT Knoxville. Now in Acworth Georgia. Traffic in Knoxville, Chattanooga, & Atlanta is just plain bad! I prefer to pay by gallon for propane. And we now use Level mate pro w phone app. But the first few years we used 3 ft long level.

Propane Story October 2020: while camping at Navajo State Park on UTE Reservation, 1 of 2 propane tanks was very low. At a Propane business, just off the reservation, we dropped off the tank for refilling. Three days later, we picked up the still empty tank and drove to a TSC store in Durango Colorado. This TSC could not refill propane tanks but sold us a new one (for spare) & sent us across the street to a Cenex station where we could get them both filled. We paid by the gallon. The next day while back in Durango to do laundry, we refilled our other tank. Good thing too! We moved to Lathrop State Park in Walsenburg Colorado and had a great full day visit at Great Sand Dunes NP. But the next morning we woke up to freezing rain. After surviving a slip down the trailer steps, bending the hand rail, we packed up and went south to Waco Texas. There, the overnight temperature stayed just above freezing. Needless to say, the spare propane tank was a game changer! After hurricane Zeta passed through Louisiana going northeast, we packed up and headed home to Georgia. LESSON: Murphy & mother nature can mess up the best laid plans! 😂

I only buy propane were I am charged actual amount to fill. I own the tanks and do not swap. Swaps are a bit of a scam. A swapis only 3/4 (15 in a 20 pound tank) which is how they make their money.

Dave, I have asked myself the same question about filling propane tanks. Why do I have to pay for the whole tank if I only need a half a tank. It seems to me it's all done by weight so it would be easy to determin how much you have added to the tank. I asked our "guy" around here. He just looked at me kinda funny. Great show. Thanks!!

Since I crew for hot air balloons I learned where all of the propane supply centers are and what the lowest prices are. So I just take my tanks to propane supply facilities and they fill/charge by the gallon. Gas stations always charged by the tank I guess since they usually did not have staff on hand (sometimes had to wait a day for someone to come by; a long, long time ago)

@TheBorderHookups11 ай бұрын
Yes, it was a bit sketchy.
@jeffsteele129511 ай бұрын
That would piss me off and the guy would not like to hear what I would have said to him. I myself have never heard of charging you for the tank size . First of all you can't fill a propane tank to its gallon size , because you only fill the 80 to 90 % of the full amount. If the tank was filled completely 100 % you would be getting liquid propane in your motorhome and that would cause it to catch on fire. Propane usually is filled like 80% the size of the tank and the propane will boil causing the gas vapors to be at the top 10 to 20 % of the tank. It is this propane vapors that you use to heat , cook or cool with. Most tanks have a pop-off valve and if you filled them 90 to 100% any increase in temperature would cause access pressure to increase in the tank causing the propane to be pushed out the pop-off valve until the tank get at the 80 % it would need to properly operate. So if they are charging you for the tank size knowing they can't even put that in the tank. Then the are taking advantage of you more than one way. I talk tough but I'm really not but this is so unfair to people. It make me mad to know these people would even do you two nice people this way. I think the world of you two . There are a lot of good RVers out here. I guess I should just keep my big mouth shut sorry.
