Thanks for the tour Andy! I found it to be quite a revelation of your decision to upgrade from Steel Melody, fine ship though she be! Dearest Melissa, I am filled with admiration for the way you have responded to the needs of the moment by adapting so quickly to your new circumstances! 46ft. has to be the absolute minimum for your needs as a liveaboard family, and I am sure that you will both fairly quickly conclude that you will be "needing a bigger boat!" to borrow a line from a familiar TV ad we have been running here in the Land of Oz! I'm thinking 70ft +! A few years ago I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to help my brother sail his 75ft ketch from Auckland NZ to Port Moresby in PNG. Initially, I was awed at the size of the yacht but I assure you that by the end of that voyage I was in full agreement with the size of the boat! The ship's company of 4 needed and we USED every sq inch of the available space! That is the sort of space that I feèl certain a family of 4 will need as a bare minimum for extended passages. I take the hint of the Med! I would expect that to be a promising location for boat shopping, too! I have fond memories of Cyprus where I spent some of my formative years. A great place for growing children too as the Cypriot people are very children oriented. It is a great regret that my poor health has forced me to abandon my wish for travel 😢. You have my condolences for having to endure a British winter on the boat....a worse fate is hard to imagine 😢 😞 Nevermind, Spring is on her way 😂!

I have a suggestion re the TV! I can't bear the thought of downsizing our 7ft. TV here at home either but I will concede that you have a bit of a problem on Ocean Melody! How 'bout this for a solution? --- I'm sure you will have seen the TV's that have been set onto a frame that has been enabled to sink out of sight behind a piece of furniture such as a sofa for example? I seem to remember seeing 👀 a couple of sofas in the saloon?

Now, that was a detailed tour! And she is a great home! The Boys' Room definitely is the coolest - because it is the most versatile and looks like there is not too much to be done anymore. However, the saloon is a close second: cosy, useful and nice looking. Yes, I saw a few things that you will have to store more securely when you go sailing with Ocean Melody. But I trust you are experienced enough to secure just about everything when the tie comes. I am kind of looking forward to hear how a small boy like Ollie is going to learn about the dangers of storage in a heeling boat ... but since he is growing up on a boat, that'll probably soon become second nature with him. Looking forward to seeing you explore the world in this!

Hi guys can you fix solar panels to your side rails Andy ... pivot them off the top rail but have extending brackets from the bottom corners so you can vary the position from Vertical to horizontal at anchor. Mounting this way allows you to catch early and late direct sunlight before the roof panels get adequate incident light. They also keep spray from splashing the cockpit area.
@SailingMelody16 сағат бұрын
That's the plan 😁 we have another two panels to install. 😁

Jack has the best cabin, definitely. It's going to be a different place when a toddler gets full access. Nothing precious or fragile will be safe. It's a pity there's no space to have a cabin each for the boys. I would have subdivided the forecabin to accommodate the boys, and put the adults aft. Maybe others can happily cohabit a space with a younger sibling but it did my head in sharing with seven year younger sibling.

Hi there..i do not comment very often on your lovely channel...but, IDEA to the door in the forepeak: dismount the door and store it elsewhere for later use....let Andy build a shelfstorage in there for more clothing space. HINT to prevent dampening of your hatch: open hatch completely, strip cling film over the opening of the hatch (might to do 2 or three strips with plenty overlay), close hatch on top of it. You just created a cheap double-glazed window where the trapped air between the cling film and the hatch worx as an insulation. Hope this will contribute a tiny little to an easier life aboard. Cheers from Germany.
@SailingMelody16 сағат бұрын
Hi :) thank you for commenting, really appreciated. There's literally no space behind that door, just a blank wall with nowhere to build a shelf. Love the idea with the cling film, we'll do that! Thank you :)

That spare door in your bedroom upfront, looking at the blueprint of the layout you’re showing it looks like it would’ve originally been access to a space behind your current cupboard and mirror section that somebody made a change whether that was during the manufacturer of the boat or sometime during another refit. Just a guess.

💡Mr. Andy and wife. I congratulate you on the cosmetic and practical changes you have made, yes yes they are undoubtedly magnificent. I heard your wife thinking about vegetables. Very well, since they all have a shelf life when outdoors and another when indoors, the most practical thing would be to MAKE THEM CANNED, and they do not need refrigeration. Containers like the ones shown by your wife in the video where there are legumes, wide, hard plastic and with a narrower screw-on lid, I think that with three you would be fine, as one is finished, another different CANNED is replaced, otherwise that is the reason why everyone runs out of vegetables halfway through, because they have to eat them in a hurry. You have an App called Pinterest where there are many examples of making preserves with their respective recipes and procedures, you will even always have good olive oil in maceration. Think about it. 👌

Even though I've watched you doing all of the work, and I've seen the progress bit by bit, It was still impressive seeing all of it in one reveal. Congratulations! Brilliant. So, couple of questions...why is there a picture of the Aig. du Midi and Mont Blanc in the forward head? Sailors & Mountaineers go together I presume. And secondly, not a trick question how does it, the boat, smell? The reason i ask is that on the boats I've sailed on, particularly on ocean crossings, there's often a slight but pervasive smell of diesel especially around the engine bay or genset. And then a bit of whiff from the head, not so much the whiff of waste but a sort of an eggy smell from seawater in the pipes. It can be a heady combination. Do you have that, and if so, how do you you deal with it?
@FLH3official18 сағат бұрын
The TV problem. I think nowadays there's no real need for a "TV set". This takes a lot of room and everybody can watch videos, series and even regular TV programs with her or his own individual laptop or tablet. Even in our "normal home on the ground" we don't have any TV set today. It's stored in the bassment and we don't miss it.
@SailingMelody18 сағат бұрын
Ah, the issue is we do like to use the playstation as well and you can't use a tablet as a screen for a playstation or x-box
@FLH3official18 сағат бұрын
@@SailingMelody Ah, OK, I understand, the video games... Sorry, but as an old prehistoric human being I don't know a lot in this matter. Isn't a way to tap the "playstation/XXbox" video signal to a tablet/laptop? (airplay, screen sharing, an USB C cable, OBS, someting like that). I'm sure someone somewhere has found a solution to that. A possible other solution could be to have hinges on the screen in order to fold it to the ceiling.

Sorry Andy, do you want to eat well. Get a smaller TV. I would get one that was sized to fit on the expanse of white over the chart table next the companionway I have a hydrometer that I use the test the specific gravity of any fluid that i need to test. It is calibrated for antifreeze but can also be used to test bilge water. Specific gravity of seawater is between 1.02 and 1.03 and anything above 1.0 is suspect.
