Nice to see the continued upgrades to the ship. Dad's ship along with the Missouri and Des Moines in the early-mid 50's. Sailed along her while rafted up against the Forrestal in Naval Station Newport.

“Bos’n whistle” is actually a Bosn’s CALL, it dates back to the days of sail. It was used to spread the word or to signal function on sailing ships because it was louder than by voice.

Iowa was across the Mississippi River from my house for long time when they took a gun turoit off and put missle launcher on her. AVONDALE SHIP YARD LA. NOW CLOSED. What happened to that.
