Good to see it all back to back like this. Even though I watched each one as you released them. What about a "mistakes, lessons learned, things id do differently" vid next?

Hey Nick - Firstly thanks for checking out the series!! & Then yes 100% that’s in the plan for next video on things I would do differently and also mistakes as for sure I made a few! Thanks again Nick… let me know if there is anything else that would be good after that 👍

Hey Caddy!! Thanks for checking out the videos! Glad they have been useful. That’ is really spooky!! I am just now on the look out for my next project and think it will be a Caddy Maxi 👍 🤣 I am just trying to find a good base van at the moment! I think you a right on the products and process are pretty much the same. Keep me posted how you get on.. hopefully you can give me some tips on the Caddy! Good luck with the conversion 👍 & thanks again for checking out the channel and taking the time to comment

@@TransitCustomCamper As you will see ours was originally a 7 seater full windows. I have been told by a pro caddy converter that I am in for some interesting times. I will need to extend the floor, which gives you space for battery one side and possible heater the other. Side foot sills need extending and the van ones are hard to find, I have already put a swivel base on the passenger seat and an electric release button for the tailgate. It will be good to compare your Caddy project.

Very nice build! we love the ford transit custom, we got the high top tho so we could squeeze 3 kids in too👍😁

Oh thanks so much for the comment and also the kind words about the build.. Ah cool yeah the custom is a great base van we really happy! We ideally wanted a high top too as that extra hight really helps give a sense of space… plus if you have the kids too 👍 we only have to squeeze two kids in.. well and the dog 😃 Did you do your own conversion too?
@maltesemillie8993 жыл бұрын
@@TransitCustomCamper yeah we did our own conversion too we couldn't find any that ticked all our boxes so had to invent one 😄 we also have a dog but she's only 2.4kg so can fit almost anywhere 😂 where do your kids sleep?

Perfect! Love how much innovation comes out in people’s builds 👍 Well we actually haven’t been out in the van yet 😃 Only just got the final bits done today including the Fridge… Even if there was room the kids said they didn’t want sleep in van with us 😂 So the plan is to get an awning tent one for side and one for the back… we might still consider a pop top maybe in the future?! But just more a day van and mobile office for my wife also… We planning our first mini adventure away tomorrow not we all done and have the fridge to keep the beer cold 😀👍

Hey Nicci - Thanks for the comment and checking out the video and kind words about our “Big Blue” conversion 😃 Sorry to hear about the troubles getting the van! But glad it’s all sorted now and you will be getting it soon! What are your plans for the conversion? Off grid? More of a day van?
@nicciellett50083 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. I think for starters it’ll be more of a day van. Our first dilemma is what type of bed to install, we’re unlikely to get comfy on a two seater RnR so I think we’ll have to see what we can do when we pick it up. Thankfully we’re getting a LWB and fitting for a pop top + 2 windows are scheduled for November time (crazy that it’ll take so long). Just got a Porta Potti and we’re thinking of a compressor chest fridge which will need some kind of power source (leisure battery/solar system). It a shame we couldn’t have it for this Bank Holiday weekend to start work.
@TransitCustomCamper3 жыл бұрын
@@nicciellett5008 - Ah OK cool - with LWB and pop top you should have some more space and options 👍 It’s always about I think how you plan to use the van that leads to what and how you convert.. Main focus for ours was my wife works as equine therapist so is often out all day and needed a mobile office. We also need to use as a daily driver too… and use it to carry passengers etc.. Yeah I think if you planning the compressor fridge (which we have just bought actually) then a power source of some description is a must 👍 Id say if you planning any off grid and running the fridge then solar would be good.. As we not planning much off grid then having the leisure battery with the split charge and also being able to operate it al on a hook up was best for us 👍 Good luck with it all!! Exciting times to get started! Keep me posted as you progress and if there are any Q’s or anything I can share from my build then drop me a note 👍

Hi loving the conversion . Can I ask if this is a standard transit custom or a long wheel base one. I'm trying to get my partner to think about converting our transit as a retirement project and he thinks his is too small 🤔
@TransitCustomCamper6 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the kind comment and checking out the video 👍 It’s a SWB.. We find it plenty big enough for what we need.. but would advise getting an awning too.. We got a Cubo awning and this just really helps make the most of the van and be able to have somewhere to stand up 😀

Watched all your videos and they are quality. Literally made me order everthing to start my build, what I'm still 50/50 on is should I carpet the van as you did and add the panels separate or fully ply both sides of the van and then carpet it. I noticed you didn't use the ply you originally removed, Would it make it easier to scribe the units as these are coming pre made but Will be fitting them myself. It's the only thing I'm tied up on at the minute.
@TransitCustomCamper3 жыл бұрын
Hey Steven! Thanks for checking out the vids, really great you going to do your own build too 👍 Yeah I understand the dilemma, I was the same.! I think if o did another one then I would probably get a full ply kit and carpet the whole thing as opposed to the separate panel like I have done. The finish would be a bit cleaner and no hassle with panel clips. The only consideration would be access afterwards to any wiring that runs though? I would say yes the scribing would be easier for sure as less bumps and contours to get the unit to fit 👍 Good luck with your build!! 😃

Why do we get rid of the plastic floor liner? Is it just for weight and a bit more space? Do you throw it away or sell it?
@TransitCustomCamper2 жыл бұрын
As we were doing the conversion - we needed to insulate and also put in new ply floor - so the mounded plastic floor wouldn’t work. We gave it away for free 👍

Hey Alex - thanks for the comment and checking out the video 👍 My conversion cost me about £3000 on parts and materials give or take a bit… There is quite a bit of variance in costs based on what you might choose and type of conversion … Also I have seen some amazing builds by conversion companies and I can understand the cost knowing the time and effort. @@TransitCustomCamper what you have done would be perfect for me. I'd buy the kitchen storage part over attempting to make it myself tho. My van is coming fully plyed so I wonder if it's worth putting carpet over that and on the floor that's already plyed. Thanks for the reply.

Great video and conversion! Really helpful to see how you did all the separate bits. I'm thinking of getting a hammond bed, what width is your furniture so it fits nicely up to the bed? And also where did you get your laminate from for the worktop/ table? Thanks, Tom

Hey Thomas 👍 that’s really kind of you glad the vids are helpful. The Hammond bed is 3/4 width. The units were from Alpine Leisure on link below. www.alpineleisure.co.uk/MDF_Fridge_Kitchen_Unit_Basic/p5574028_19638775.aspx The table and worktop are not laminate it’s a vinyl wrap I got I think from vinyl direct. @@TransitCustomCamper Thank you so much for the information - when you ordered your hammond camper bed did they ask you for the width that you required? In the description it says " upholstered up to 1200mm" did you go the full 1200? Hey Curtis… Thanks for following the series and also for the comment 👍 No you haven’t missed it… I actually had the windows fitted by a local company… They supplied the windows as a kit but were also offering free fitting at the time… So I just went with that I did look up other videos and I don’t think it’s too complex… Just I guess the pressure of cutting big holes in your van! No pressure 👍 Good luck with your project… hope it goes well… Are you doing a Custom?

@@TransitCustomCamper thanks for the info. Yes I’ve settled on a custom. I think I’ll go for a 15 or 16 plate to try and have one with a smart alternator.
