North Korea isn't as bad as the Western media makes it out to be. I'm not saying its paradise, in fact its fairly oppressive and poor, but Western media makes shit up and/or totally ignores anything good to focus only on the bad. North Korea is like a dog backed into the corner. It only cares about defending itself from a much more powerful enemy, the United States and other Western nations. The West is in the region because its in our interest that the South Korean side remain independent. That and also China is very imperialistic and the US doesn't like competition. China buys land and sends Chinese colonists to Australia and Mongolia for example. If we could guarantee that China and North Korea would leave South Korea alone we would probably back off. North Korea could then focus on improving the lives of North Koreans and even take up liberalization efforts, much like the USSR did after the death of Stalin.
