He is special because he isn't just a good pop guitarist he is a great POP guitarist, Blues, jazz etc etc etc. You personal feelings for him cloud your opinion of him as a player. Clapton thinks he is a great Player and so do most people who pay attention. Is he Steve Vie? No because he doesn't want to be. Vie is great but personally I don't like that (How many notes can you play in a second, How many scales do you know) crap. Id rather listen to 1 BB King note than a hundred Yingyang Malestersteen!!! John Mayer has played with legends like Clapton. Clapton says John is a master. Now that's a source I can respect.

He makes guitars that look like strats, he makes guitars that look like les paul design. His design will never become legendary as they werent there at the dawn of electric guitar music, end of story. They are ony followers, borrowers of other peoples designs, nothing inovative with prs all they did was make guitars look pretty. PRS is like a child when anyone discusses anything other than prs guitars, hes very very insecure about his products, hes hoping everyone agrees with his bs. hes a really sickly guy to listen to. His gear isn't meant for the average player - its meant for professional musicians and his discussion about "unicorn" gear isn't a 10k guitar or 5k amp, its the fact that you can buy them for retail where as things like Dumbles go for $200k - $500k and require a worldwide hunt for them since theyre limited in number. THATS what he's talking about, not gear for bedroom players.
@adrianhjordan19817 жыл бұрын
themike So in your world there are bedroom players and professional players and no-one in between?? So the working band who gig every week but also have full-time jobs because being a gigging band doesn't pay enough to live off of (ie the vast majority of bands), they shouldn't be able to aspire to own nice, but affordable, gear?? Only the small minority of professionals who can give thought to dropping several grand on a guitar or amp. In my experience the non-pro players with that level of disposable income ARE bedroom players!!

Paul says, Hey John. You're at a PRS press conference... What would you like to talk about?... -John says, "the spirit of pancakes." then twenty minutes of outerspace goes by.

What people don’t realize is that when Mayer is rambling on while speaking it’s because he’s trying to present the point he’s making but he tends to, not be to quite grasp exactly how to explain it. For example he does the exact same thing with his guitar playing trying to play the write thing he’s hearing in his head to end the solo.

To answer a few people's questions: The Grateful Dead song he starts to play at the very end (about 23 min in) is called Terrapin Station.

I wonder if a guitar pick company paid John enough, he'd return to playing with picks. "I was tired of chasing after unicorn picks, I wanted one pick that could do it all, play every note. No need to lug around dozens of picks to gigs, just one pick the only cost $5,000." :-)

JM loves PRS guitars so much that he had them make him an exact copy of a Stratocaster with a PRS headstock.

How many people know that John's teacher was Al Ferrante in Fairfield CT .Al is the nicest guy you could ever meet. He started his career playing for Edger Winter, Johnny Winters brother. I have known Al for over 35 years and he just gets better. For reasons I will never understand why he is more well known. He has played with so many great bands but go to his Facebook page and see who he plays with. I owned a Guitar store called Guitars Unlimited about a half mile from AL's store. He never gets the credit he deserves. You go AL !!!

Just bought a PRS, that’s why I’m here 🤣 I was planning on getting a Gretsch til I tested out a prs singlecut version of this guitar. Their guitars have the best tone and versality of any guitar I’ve heard or played

I've been playing on stage since 1964 and still am, and I I'll be damned if the rig I use now doesn't sound as good as that $6,000 PRS (luducris!) at 10% of the cost.

John Mayer's strong influence by BB King shows in his playing. BB King once said he tried to emulate what the horns would play. In part of this segment, JM touch and rhythm reminded of an organ.
