Links etc below! PS: If the appstore link does not work, that means the app has not yet propagated to your region! This video is a detailed walkthrough and honest review of GlitchStep (AUv3, Mac, iOS) by Alex Matheu, developer of Glitchcore. GlitchStep is a 16-step sequencer app focused on real-time sequence manipulation, featuring three main sections: the main sequencer, a slice-based grid, and a ‘glitch’ section. Users can adjust, randomize, and shuffle note values, gate lengths, velocity, and step probability, with a handy glitch XY pad that adds ratchety rhythmic and melodic variation. It also includes pattern-switching and chaining features. While there are aspects I really enjoy, some elements might not suit my personal sequencer workflow preferences. I hope the video provides a helpful guide for those learning the app and those deciding if its workflow aligns with their own needs and preferences. I have tons of vids on midi apps on iOS here, by the way: kzbin.info/aero/PLl4Ittz8N8V9nCTpwNM3XeF2s5AIkNuau&si=5LGyvcCRH2lqCuqX Making these videos takes real time and commitment. Thank for walkthrough! And thats a neat idea about semitones/octave slider like Rozeta scaler. It would make Glitchstep more powerful and fun

Really, a keyboard like Xynthesizr as note input method would be best but that will likely never happen. Cheers!

I agree with you on constructive criticism. Some devs are new, it helps them help us
@GavinskisTutorialsАй бұрын
Glad you agree. It's also not necessarily about being new. For example this dev has been making apps for years. But everyone has their own musical backgrounds and blind spots - including me of course. Cheers!

I mostly agree on your comments, and beside these few "glitches" (entering values fore notes, undo/redo limitation), this looks like a lot of fun - nothing wrong to be picky and to let developers knew what we want. It doesn't help anyone to put that all-smiles face on, weak issues need to be addressed to overcome shortages.
@GavinskisTutorialsАй бұрын
Devs are mostly open to and even appreciative of constructive criticism, and Alex, dev of this app and also a super nice guy, has been very receptive towards my suggestions.

Thanks for the HONEST review Gav. You have far more experience and have tried many more apps than most of the people reading this review so your opinion matters. I don’t believe that any app, when released, is perfect and it’s only by critical review that the devs can make those all important tweaks. I’m sure that some people will not like this refreshing approach, in fact one content creator said they were worried that they may lose subscribers because they had not provided an entirely glowing review of a particular app and this is sad. If developers only read reviews that say that their app is brilliant then they will not improve so well done for providing a constructive critique! 👍😁

Thanks for the walkthrough and review! Note input via keyboard would be cool and also add to the performative character! As it is, it looks like a very fun playground!

I'd say that it's different, just. Both have some good points and some bad points. Cheers!

Apple has become quite sloppy with their search algorithms in the App Store - if you search for a certain app you will not find it, but if you first search for the developer, the new app is selectable there?
@JohnDoe-yr5tgАй бұрын
I was wondering with all your knowledge of the sequencing apps do any come close or are better then the Oxi one sequencer which is nearly £700 when the sequencer on iOS seem to do a lot
@ChingkayAudioАй бұрын
there are a lot of software sequencers outperforming their hardware colleagues, but that doesn't make hardware to become obsolete, as there are always users/applications, which require dedicated haptic elements to support the performance. Whether that's worthwhile to dig that deep into the money pocket can only the individual user decide.
@GavinskisTutorialsАй бұрын
I'm not familiar with that piece of hardware. Mostly I stick to iOS, I only use a few simple midi controllers.

great video cool , app .. but i think it should be half as long.. try to explain things faster , and if we are lost we can rewind.. if you explain to slow we gotta up the playback speed ..
@GavinskisTutorialsАй бұрын
True, true. But - there are many factors that contribute to vids not being as perfect as I'd like. This was made in a rush after midnight, and after about 3 hours of discarded takes. The time spent learning this app, playing with it, thinking about its weaknesses, giving many hours of unpaid feedback to the dev, doing KZbin admin and other stuff was easily equal to a few days of full time work already. All this with only around £3 per 1000 views ad revenue from KZbin and small amounts from Patreon, as well as not much sponsorship from devs. So yeah, I would love all the vids to be perfect but I simply can't manage that. If more devs sponsor vids, if there are more paying Patrons and people donating, it might be more doable. I already have to be insane to still be doing this, tbh 🤷
@TheScreamingFrog916Ай бұрын
I just bump up the playback speed.
@ievgenm8885Ай бұрын
transpose all notes is very missing, 1/3 rates in XY as well. very nice otherwise
@GavinskisTutorialsАй бұрын
Thnx. Lack of transpose notes I regard as a really weird oversight, yes. Dev will look at putting some kind of mode for dotted and normal times in the Glitch section too. For me also tho, 16 steps is really too short on some ways. I'd like locks per step to stop individual steps being modified by the randomizer etc. Anyway, email suggestions to the dev, he's a nice guy and definitely open to constructive feedback
@nathanbryersАй бұрын
Soo… 😂 does it work while unfocused ? Glitchcores cutter becomes irrelevant when not actually in focus. How does this compare? If that is solved, you just sold an app 😉
@GavinskisTutorialsАй бұрын
What do you mean by 'in focus'? I don't remember GlitchCore having any issue while its AUv3 window is closed. But it doesn't save state the way I expect, from what I remember. This does tho, yes
