Was staying with a friend who has this exact washer. Wondering why my clothes did not get clean. The second time I used it I stopped the cycle and added a couple buckets of water manually. Now I see why. Thank God for my 15 year old Speed Queen.

Whirlpool cabrio is supposed to be fix version of calypso but they became obsessive with impeller design after making cabrio series

I had a first generation Whirlpool Cabrio with the central agitator. Back when they were using Fisher & Paykel's SmartDrive system in them. It did a very solid job cleaning. This one isn't quite as bad as I was expecting, but would definitely prefer an older one over this. Nice video!

WTW7040DW0 has a SmartDrive motor but, of course, a mode shifter instead of a floating basket.

My parents have had this exact model since about 2016. It is definitely subpar when it comes to cleaning results. One thing I will say is, it’s been very reliable! It does 500+ washes per year and has never broken down.

I honestly wonder why horizontal axis top loaders haven't become commonplace outside of Europe. Just make them wider so that they can take as much laundry as a front loader. They also have two pairs of bearings, on either side, and can spin as fast as front loaders. They also use as much water as front loaders, so they are very economical and ecological compared to old school top loaders. P.S: I'd love to see you get a Staber Industries top loader in your shop. It would be a delight to see.

Also Lorin, what happened to the plastic blue cap? It’s right on the centre of the tub. 12:19 and here 2:20 at the beginning there was the cap but in its spin the cab was gone!!? Did the cap melt or fell in the drain pump?

So much soap left in those from the previous washing machine, just adds more to the reasons why I will never have anything but a front loader, the wash performance is far superior and the rinsing is way way way better than top loaders and front loaders spin faster

Funny how decades the opposite has been true, now all of a sudden with the green "mother earth" worshipers they don't clean so well anymore ? As we have both types available to us in the USA, I have had both at the same time. One does not do an appreciable job over the other and the front loader had a heater in it. Where the top load shines with more water is that it flushes out stench out of clothes better and that's a fact. I had both types at the same time so I know.

Even with the direct drive motor, these things are pathetic. I really do believe there is something wrong at Whirlpool. It's like they gave up even competing with their front loaders. Something is wrong at corporate level. Has got to be.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this... having worked in appliances for several years now, it's become eniably clear that Whirlpool, the entire company, is paralyzed with what I can only describe as "pathological corporate demand avoidance". Their complete and utter unwillingness to do *anything* truly new or innovative is staggering. Their fetishization of cost-cutting is appalling. Why do they insist on using a 63-year-old design for 85% of their dryers? Why are they so incapable of figuring out how to use an inverter to drive a variable speed motor? I realize the American consumer public is notoriously stubborn and resistant to change (look what had to happen for even 10% of americans to admit that a bidet is a better solution than shredded trees..) but that doesn't mean they have to lean into the resistance to change just as hard. Look at what GE did with their combo... they solved the lint problem with higher air speed and then, by necessity but rather secretly, used a heat pump so that it didn't need a 200 amp breaker from all the heat it would be pumping outside totally wasted... if they'd marketed it as a heat pump dryer, the average american would immediately hate it for "pandering to the eco crazies" due to their inability to recognize how insane the idea of blowing 6,000 watts of electric heat *out of a 4 inch hole in the wall* really was... so they hid it. And as a result, the buying public only knows it'll save them effort, and they love it. Heck some of the old people I tell them it'll guzzle three times as much power because it's so fast, and they LOVE the idea of making sure they leave my generation with a scorched, barren wasteland of a planet to live on! 😂

@@dregenius Do you believe in change just for the sake of change ? What does a new dryer do any better or faster than an older design ? Whirlpool filter on top dryers are some of the best ever and that's why that design is still around. Wider circumference drums help clothes dry more evenly and not as much tangling. Whirlpool came up with the idea of the stationary bulkhead which nearly EVERY manufacture today uses. Must have been pretty good if other companies copied from them. If condenser dryers were so wonderful than why did our own U.S. manufacturers ditch them early on ? What other rules need to be imposed upon us ? My beef with Whirlpool is that like you said they are cost cutting extremely. They are now the dreaded WCI of white goods. They insist on pushing those ridiculous removable retarded agitator things and doing away with the porcelain wash tubs and true agitators.THAT pisses me off and the fact that LG and SAMSUNG have gotten ahead of them. No thanks to #46 who turned back 45s visit to Whirlpool to get them to use more water in their dishwashers and washers again.

@@dregenius I've not seen anything compelling from any American appliance brand in nearly 2 decades. I've totally switched over to EU brands because they're always innovating. Finally got a Miele washer a few months ago and I could not be happier with the results. Even my greasy, tea and coffee stained kitchen towels come out blinding white.

Other than a few microwave ovens and the dryer that came with my home, I never bought a GE major appliance . I recently purchased a GE portable dishwasher under $600 which was about $200 cheaper than the Whirlpool. Normally I would go with whirlpool but I wanted to save money and I heard this dishwasher was actually available . Figures it's made in China but it actually cleans very well and feels to be pretty well made . I just hope that it lasts for a little while . They definitely copied Bosch with the older wash arms Bosch used several years back.

My grandmother has a Maytag MVWX655DW1 and it washes pretty good. She had this machine for 5 years and it's still going well. She uses the bulky sheets cycle to fill more water and cleans the clothes very well! Only downside is that they might float during the rinse but I pushed them down in the water. Other than that, good washing machine. I prefer the LG as they did a lot better than this!

I have this washer. Not too impressive. But we’re making do with it. We run our clothes on the bulky cycle, unless it’s just one or two outfits. Then we’d use the mixed, casual, and whites on the smaller loads

Whirlpool just decided to go cheap and discontinue their best design ever, the direct drive. Their Maytag Commercial machines are ok, but they are still not the direct drive!! Today, the Speed Queen TC5 and Maytag Commercial are the best machines to get!

When my daughter rented a house, it had this exact washing machine... she hated it, says it was garbage. Didn't clean, left soap spots and dirt on clothes. When the machine broke down it was a $600 fix and she refused to pay for it ( ya the landlord wouldn't fix it ) So she went and bought her own machine, a direct drive with agitator, she couldn't believe the difference and will never go back to that garbage.

I just replaced a 2013 model cabrio washer and dryer. The worst ever. I had to do an extra rinse cycle for every load or the clothes would smell horrible. Had for 11 years with no breakdown, but only used for a 2 person household. Transmission failed, oil everywhere underneath. Just aren't many good new ones anymore. Will never have another top loader without an agitator again.

I don't understand how these are supposed to clean at all. I've seen people put blankets in for the top half of the blanket to stay totally dry and still covered in dog hair by the end... And watching this in 2X speed, the pants aren't moving at all. Just getting bumped around slightly..

Quick Wash is for one or two items. It's not appropriate for this load even for demonstration purposes. The machine isn't particularly good but perhaps it'd do better on these pants with proper option choices.

I was just at the laundromat washing a small load of clothes. These HE washers such as this one make me cringe. I love Whirlpool but this washer is just horrible. I know Whirlpool can do better than this seriously. An IPSO front loader does a better job than this washer.

These top loaders are a joke. The old style ones work better, but they use entire swimming pools of water to clean the clothes. Front loaders are the future.

Do people actually buy these? The early impellers would fill up then twist the clothes into knots. This does absolutely nothing. Neither the early ones nor this one actually clean. I'm glad I bought a front loader. My old agitator Hotpoint was 100 times better than this.
