Yuanwu is slept on and I'm here to fix that. He is a sub-dps that does a lot of vibration damage.
I'll cover his abilities, rotations and how to build him.

Also the Weekly Boss echo, Bell-borne Geochelone can roll the energy set and also gives a team damage% boost along with damage reduction. The skill damage scales off DEF and is instant cast. Also a viable choice.

Great info in this video! Appreciate you sharing it. I gotta lock my echoes more because I definitely had some that gave DEF before I started fusing them. Love Yuanwu, too! I was lucky enough to pull him repeatedly and get him to RC4. I'm going to use him as a sub-dps when I get Calcharo from my choice banner.

He is a lot of fun. for me he feels the sustain/subdps role - he gives a shield, increases team def, he helps for faster poise break and then deals a bit of dmg. he is perfect for the bell echo. I think he will be late bloomer as soon as we get 5 star def weapon AND a 5 star def dps.. his chains also look so impactful.

@@Morax024 Yea, it control's the pillar explode damage. If you want to basic a lot then forte is better. It's pretty even split though.

Very good review! His pillar gives him passive Forte build up just being there. By itself, it gives about 70% of this Forte. Then ANY character (your main DPS or even your healer/support attacking) hitting 3ish times is enough to make sure his Forte is 100% full. This makes it so that he really never needs to be on the field unless he is able to Lightning Infuse. Then he can re- Lightning Infuse with his Resonance Liberation then Outro skill out to your Main DPS. By then, boss is probably broken. Rinse repeat. Fun character. Breaking vibration is only going to get more important as we get higher levels. Must be a reason why they give him out for free in Tower.

The pillar also does a single pulse when your forte is filled, w/c is supposed to have increased break damage as well. Not super impactful based on my testing but it's something.

mad respect for you . I main him + aalto . its crazy that this is the first game i really dislike all the 5 star characters my calcharo is lv1. all my 2 teams are 4 stars except for verina only using it for exploration healing. I mean he is fast, cool, his sequence are CRAZY , shield melter. the 4 star weapon is soo good for him. the only thing missing for him is a 5 star def gauntlet and he will be SS tier. In 2 days my dream banner will come Yinlin and yuanwu + Aalto all in the same banner (MUST PULL FOR ME) . its annoying that no one is giving him love in videos until a REALLY BIG KZbinR say something insane about him or putting him high on his tier list.

I'm not the one to defend tierlists or anything, but afaik most of them are designed around character performance in ToA, so it's understandable that they take into consideration full and well-done rotations since in ToA you basically race against time. Besides, the only content in this game right now where game actively discourages you from doing full rotations are high difficulty holo bosses, but even then you can get around it - I mainly play Jiyan (since it's the only team that I have properly built rn) and the only holo boss I have issues doing full rotations is tempest mephis. That being said, I enjoyed the video - I was surprised at how people bashed at Yuan Wu/ignored him completely, because I glanced over his kit and it looked pretty good (and his gameplay feels satisfying), so it's nice to see a video showing that it wasn't just me xd

Yuanwu is undoubtedly the smoothest character to play. His basic combo, skill rotations, and team comps are all seamless. Everything about him screams ideal character. Also, don't forget that his Liberation skill also explodes his pillar! Maximize his damage by using his ult to explode the 1st pillar, then using his Forte Gauge to explode a 2nd pillar after. By then, he should have a lot of energy filled back for another ult rotation.

im with you on the take for tier lists in this game so far. a lot of the guys on the prydwyn team have even mentioned never actually using or building some of the less popular characters so dont really even have a frame of reference for some of the ratings. Sure the dps with optimal rotation may be relevant right now when we are trying to push tower 30 lvls above our current cap. but that wont be very representative for long.

S3 adds a huge amount of damage to his follow up attacks. You said a small amount, but it takes it from around 5% def at low levels to 25% def, and it keeps going up as you upgrade his basic attack talent. I don't know if you misread it or what, but it adds a flat 20% of his defense on top of the base damage.

His second ascension passive is just so nice.. everytime you left/cancel, he left his pillar on the ground, making you not needing E Swap Cancel... Not to mention the MASSIVE area his totem has if you unlock it.. If played Duo, He pretty much can break Vibration with Outro and still weave in Enhanced Forte while doing swap cancels OOOGHHHH THIS GAME COMBAT

Also one thing I didn’t notice before and in case anyone hasn’t noticed either, is that when you use his ultimate, he gains electro infusion so you don’t have to rely on just him reaching his forte bar. So this means on one rotation you can pop is forte bar for that infusion, then on the next rotation pop his burst to get that infusion again. I would run the mistake of popping his forte and ultimate at the same time and really made me thing he was a poop character but now I really do thing he’s got a lot of hidden potential.

agree. tier list is more like meta chart. if ppl don't cook with a unit, they just put them at the bottom of the pit. just play with your favorite unit, as long as you can build the team and suit with your playstyle.

I've seen that you can use the fists that give healing with rejuvenating glow, if you get the gloves to rank 5 it's pretty much constant healing.

Healing isn't that much and is only to himself. Would proc the healing set and it does give crit dmg so its probably a viable choice. Would have to run the numbers but it's no where near enough to replace a healer.

I also agree yhat that tier lists are totally subjective i prefer to play with units i enjoy wrecking havoc with. I play chixia. I think shes awesome but no one talks about her either. Lol

They do in the enhanced state which should be up most of the time. It only falls off if you keep him on-field for more than 15 seconds.

I run him. I use the same weapon, maxing out Defense for about 2100 defense. does like 2k Forte Damage on the Ult.

Dude fine, it's like you said that tier in this game is useless because not all player playing it the same way as other. He work as sub-dps more into energy regen + def so he can break faster against bosses. Whenever he can join the intro just use him immediately to cause a huge break . Been using him for awhile, even with red name boss i can still kill them due to his break while letting my team to heal during the time . F2p anyway.

There are 2 3* def gauntlets that are fine and one is craftable. Some people even found use for the #3 guantlets with crit dmg on them. Since he def scales, the atk on the weapon doesn't really matter.

I was thinking about yuanwu mortefi and a healer (baizhi/verina, or if there's upcoming old looking man healer). Mortefi going to be main dps here, mortefi ult just for yuanwu forte burst, since yuanwu HA is faster when he's in lightning infused state, and mortefi gives HA deepen buffs. What do you guys thing?

What I hate about Def scaling characters is the fact that they're almost always has their basic attack scales on atk. Like why? We don't see Atk scaling characters scale their basic on def. Idk why they couldn't just let all of their kit scale on one aspect of the game. It's always the def scalers man.
