While I can completely understand the value of drive by wire in a performance application, where the tuner has total control of adjustments to improve drivability, in the OE market it is being tuned by manufacturers to help bad drivers have smoother throttle input, while ruining the responsiveness for people who are accustomed to carefully modulating throttle inputs. I’ve never felt a drive by wire car that was as easy to modulate throttle in as I have most any cable-driven car. It ends up feeling numb and lifeless. Too bad this guy didn’t tune the throttle mapping on my Audi, because it feels absolutely awful compared to my 300ZX TT that is 20 years older.

The problem people have, me included, with drive by wire, is not the speed with which the valve can go from 0% to 100% open. It's the response and the precision of the throttle movement reflecting our right foot/right wrist. Nobody likes to press the gas pedal/twist the grip and get 0 response. The cables are as fast and as precise at opening and closing the throttle as you are at twisting that grip, the ride by wire lags. That lag is the problem. Can you get rid of that? Can you make a ride by wire be as instant and precise as the cable was?

Tyrone is awesome - so much knowledge but makes it relatively easy for the rest of us to understand. Love his approach based on OE knowledge.

Great content. I've been using DBW for years to control boost in my Turbo LS 6.0 with an 88mm with no wastegate. Changed from a gold blade to a much smaller throttle body from a V6, to get better authority. 14psi is around 50% throttle open.
