We show you how a Throttle by Wire system functions. How it communicates with the PCM and what the PCM is expecting to see from the system. Why the Power Loss light illuminates and the vehicle goes into limp mode. How to test the system with and without specialized tools. The dealership had the diagnostics all wrong on this vehicle, you won't believe their conclusion.

Thanks so much dear!!!! this is crystal clear guidance for ordinary drivers who fix their cars by themselves. By the way I tear down my throttle body & found some dusts; scratches on the potentiometer….. understanding the wires was the challenge as it’s embodied with the cover … then I get your video which helped me not to worry abt it & focus on potentiometer.

Hello, thanks for the informative video. I recently put a new pigtail on the Throttle Actuator Motor on my 2008 Expedition. I thought I wired it correctly, but not sure if there is a pos. or neg. side to motor. There is a red wire and black wire coming from pigtail, but Ford has diff. colors to harness. (Blue wire and Yellow wire) can't find wiring diagram. Any help?

Technically sound, this is the information I was looking for, my 2003 X-trail is starting and cutting off after 3 seconds, the throttle body flapper is not moving, I changed it, and still nothing, any advice? Do you know where the relays are for the motor or is it transistors that are switching inside the ECU.

Good thing she surrounded by masters techs such as you Mr. Hicks, I hope to someday reach that status.. But man I tell you, these cars are advancing by the min... My biggest weakness is wire diagram interpretation.. I hang on every word you all say.. lol I watch every vid at least 5 times..

Well I tell you what Mr. fiveforty, you just gave me the idea I needed. Please let me explain, we do "Live" training events once a month. I have been wanting to start doing them every two weeks. I have been thinking to do a scope class for guys who don't use their scopes everyday. But i kept feeling I needed something more, but for the life of me i could not think what it could be. Well Sir it is going to be reading wiring diagrams and scope training for guys who don't do it everyday. Thank you! These classes will start January 2015. Mark Hicks Wells Vehicle Electronics

Hey, Sir. Do all ETC system function the same way? I am just trying to know if Infiniti TPS Sensors function the same way as the vehicle in this video.
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, as with everything on a car, it's very unlikely that something functions the same as something else. ETC systems are no different. Whether its an Infiniti or a Ford, they will act different, but do the same job. What kind of Infiniti are you working on? Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

Good day Sir. I have problem with my Toyota Yaris 2012 The idle drop when AC is turn on and it only idle like around 720+rpm. I also noticed the cooling fan doesn't switch to on/off when it reach the temperature. It remains On There's engine vibration is also noticeable, I have cleaned the throttle body, change the spark plugs, ignition coil and o2 sensor. I check for any leak from the hoses but still having the same problem. I Hope you could help me, have a nice day God bless

Hi. I was wondering if is a discrepancy between Tps 1 and Tps2 could be cause by a dirty throttle body.
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't see how it could. The sensors are both reading on the exact same shaft. If there's a dirty throttle body issue I would expect both sensors to show the same results. Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

Thank you, Mike.I was just asking because I see people who have the same code p2135 on nissan say that they clean the throttle plate and fix the issue. I, myself, don't see how this can happen as well.
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, not sure! A P2135 is a signal rationality code. Not sure how the throttle plate would cause that. Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

@markhicks Mr. Hicks I have 99 crown Vic 4.6 with a p01409 @ p0443.. I am missing feed voltage for both of these solenoids.. This is with (KOEO) The Evr solenoid that controls egr valve has two wires, red & brown. The brown wire goes to ecm ground side switched?? The red wire is feed just because it's slightly heaver gage wire.. So I assume it's feed.from looking at a wire digram I don't it's destination.. Maybe it's the bootleg wire diagram I'm using or my inexperience of following a diagram idk.. But it only shows red wire#11 Is that ecm slot?? Or is that a another connecter& slot?? Lol hey when is that wiring diagram class??
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 9 жыл бұрын
LOL Wire diagram class starts January next year. this is the test procedure for the P1409: 1. Verify battery voltage is present to the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid on the Red (R) wire with the ignition switch in the Run position. 2. Check resistance between the two terminals of the EVR solenoid. Resistance should indicate 30-70 ohms. 3. If the solenoid checks to be OK and the R wire indicates battery voltage, check the Brown/Pink (BR/PK) wire for battery voltage with the ignition key in the Run position. 4. If the BR/PK wire indicates battery voltage with the solenoid plugged in, check the BR/PK wire at PCM pin 47 to verify that the BR/PK wire indicates battery voltage indicating a defective PCM. 5. Check the BR/PK wire to verify it does not show any voltage with the PCM and the EVR solenoid disconnected to verify it is not shorted to power, which may have damaged the PCM driver during an EVR solenoid activation attempt. Test Procedure P0443: 1. Check for a blown (or missing) fuse 21. This is a 15-amp mini-fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. 2. If the fuse is OK, check for a poor terminal connection or a broken Red/Yellow wire under the fusebox. Fuse 21 supplies power to every component that is setting a code. The missing and lack of power is due to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) shutting injectors off under load, in order to protect the transmission. There have been problems with the harness to the transmission causing this fuse to blow. If you find yourself on this path also do this test procedure: 1. Check fuse #21 (15 amp mini) of the under hood fuse box for a blown, missing, or poorly connected fuse. 2. If fuse 21 is found to be blown, inspect Vehicle Power (VPWR) circuit for a short to ground, at any of the Oxygen (O2) sensor harness connections, looking for a potential short to the exhaust manifold or an exhaust pipe. Disconnect the transmission solenoid harness on the passenger side of the transmission and inspect it for the presence of transmission fluid on the connection. Service the harness for a shorted circuit as needed. 3. If the transmission solenoid harness connector is wet with fluid, recommend replacement of the transmission interconnect. This is the piece that connects the internal harness to the external harness. 4. If fuse 21 blows when the transmission solenoid harness is reconnected, the internal interconnect (harness) should also be replaced. Stay in touch, Mark

so does the apps also put out two different signals opposite of each other that adds up to 5v?
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 6 жыл бұрын
Most put our 2 inverse signals. It's not so much that they need to add up to 5v, it's more that they cross paths at the proper voltage, that's what the computer is checking usually. Some cars use 3 signals. Ford likes to do that. Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

Wells Vehicle Electronics thanks for the reply. Is the throttle position sensor opening percentage on a scan tool suppose to match the app sensor %?
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 6 жыл бұрын
Usually not. The APPS is an input to the PCM. The PCM makes the call on how far to open the throttle. Want a good representation, go drive a car with traction control. Stomp on the gas in gravel and make traction control kick in. You'll see 100% APPS and very limited TPS. This is because the PCM has the final call on how much throttle is actually allowed :) Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

100,000 k new engine??? Was she changing her oil??
@GoTechTraining
@GoTechTraining 9 жыл бұрын
Yea she has taken pretty good care of the vehicle. Almost all highway miles and the oil and filter get changed every 5K. the point was there was nothing really wrong with the engine, to me it appeared the dealership did not diagnose it properly. Those engines do have a history of ring problems, but she was no where near the time for a rebuild. Mark Hicks Wells Vehicle Electronics
