Marine engine dynos are a rare sight worldwide, Nizpro Marine not only manufactures hard parts like supercharger systems for the popular Yamaha V6 outboard engines, but they also offer calibration upgrades. We caught up with Simon Gishus for an insight into their dyno cell and engine calibration capabilities.

Simon Gishus has forgotten more about motors than what most of us know about them. No nonsense, no mess, all business. 👍 People forget that he is the OG creator of the 1000hp RB40, doing it years before others were coming close to 1000hp with their "2K Barras". 💪

@VinnieKoltes No, it wasn't a typo, it's a long running thing due to the Barra and the RB having a near IDENTICAL block design and bore spacing in the block. Even major RB companies like Nitto have bought into saying "RB40" for a normal or "RB38" for their destroker Barra. The fact you decided to turn around and try to discredit my comment without knowing what you were talking about opened you up for an insult. So if you can't handle that, not my issue fucktard. 🤦👎

Everything he just talked about is 100% spot on. The man knows his business. Can't tell you how many times I've watched so many mistakes being made on various dyno channels and they will argue the points you bring up. Now you know you are mostly watching entertainment instead of research & development.

One of my Favourite video in a long time. Super informative and accurate. I've met Simon and I can say I've also met some legends in the outboard community Like Ron Anderson of Mercury Racing Fame. Simon is right up there. What Nizpro are doing is making waves it the USA. Pretty impressive for an Aussie company. Whilst not being a Yamaha man I've felt the power of the 450 and I can tell you it's a Beast. Great work Fullboost for bringing us great cutting edge content.

We were the first to arrive for the Friday night street drags and was suprised that this guy from "that" tuning shop Nizpro wanted to come chat to me about my car instead of his new at the time orange BA XR6 turbo. This was the best marine engine power related video I have seen to date. I would NEVER have thought to keep the power head on the lower unit (and the difference it makes with the exhaust tuning EVEN with a fourstroke) to keep numbers matching in real time.

they've been doing it that way for a long long time . they have all different sizes of waterbrake dynos for the propshaft, and all you need is a garden hose (obviously of sufficient pressure). this way is certainly better for what they are doing tuning-wise, but is extremely expensive.

It makes perfect sense to go down this path. There's generally no speed limit on the water, apart from 6 knot zones, and the registration doesn't increase with cylinder amounts or power, unlike fast cars. A screaming twin turbo big block with no mufflers is all okay on the water, not so much on the street.

This man builds engine packages. He's not just handing you a pretty Dyno number he's giving you a real power number you can expect to put into the water under real circumstances. With the lower unit attached using the cooling it will have on the boat with ambient air temp and not just the first run numbers but the numbers it made after everything is hot like it would be in use or even hotter because it would have alot of airflow on the boat. You would be surprised how often an engine builder will feed an engine they built for a customer high octane fuel with more ignition advance, cold Dyno water pumping through the cooling system, air conditioned air going into the intake with 30 weight oil and no accessories to get that real nice number. Then once in the car with hot coolant, hot air, pump gas, alternator water pump power steering and less timing advance it's down 60-100 horsepower or possibly more in some cases. I dunno I just feel like it's shady to do that. For example any work I do for someone I do my best to make sure the customer knows exactly what is going on, what's being done, ways to make it better or cheaper without compromising quality and just in general what they get for their money. I would Dyno their engine as close to real world in car conditions as possible knowing I built it myself to my high standards. If I'm selling you a 500 hp engine to me it needs to make that number with its own water pump with the air cleaner on it Etc. This is probably why all of my customers continue to bring all of their stuff to me and recommend me to everyone. The other week my truck broke down and a customer just gave me their keys and said use mine and it's making a little sound when I hit bumps. Give me a call when you are done.

Hi Simon, How are you doing mate? It is great to see that you have still got that drive and interest in pursuing the quest for extracting maximum horsepower, and reliability, repeatability from your engines You have always been at the pointy end of this type and R&D. In regards to the in-cylinder pressure measurement, was that from a pre-existing OEM setup already used by this engine package or a rehash on the old NISSAN FAIRLADY transducer setup you and i spoke about a year or two ago. I haven't proceeded with that setup myself as yet. But i definitely plan on proceeding to make a start on it this year. I love the blower intercooler assembly. All the best mate, Kind Regards Dave Kriedeman PRO TUNING

i used to build 2 cycle outboard racing powerheads. the looper was a good one but the Mercury chrome bore V6 was a scary monster, they don't even wake up until they hit 4000 RPM then from about 5 to 9000 you had to hold on to something. You can still find them attached to bass boats, put that shit on an 11 foot hydroplane and win stupid prizes

Boats aren’t necessarily my thing. But I love IC engines in all forms. Bikes, cars, boats planes and trains, you name it. Add high end performance to that and love it even more. 2 stroke or four stroke. A well built engine pulling hard and running up in rpm, nothing beats the roaring heartbeat thundering against your chest. You know what I mean.

What happens when you pull the drain plug on a moving boat with water in it? It get drawn out of the bilge right. You are not factoring that in on your exhaust. You still have constant pressure not a drop as the boat would be moving.
