Ian Cron, speaker and coauthor of The Road Back To You, talks about the Enneagram, the unconscious motivations that influence us from childhood, and the nine different types and what makes each distinct. Ian Cron was a guest speaker at Fuller’s 2019 Culture Care Week. These videos were filmed at the Brehm|Fujimura Studio at Fuller Seminary. The art in the background is Sea Beyond by Makoto Fujimura, courtesy of Waterfall Mansion Gallery in New York City.

Unconscious motivation of 1: Compulsively perfect themselves and others and to be right. Unconscious motivation of 2: Compulsive need to be needed. Unconscious motivation of 3: Attain success and avoid failure at all costs. Unconscious motivation of 4: The need to be special and unique in order to compensate for the missing piece Unconscious motivation of 5: To gather as much info about niche subjects to fend off inadequacies and getting caught up in the world Unconscious motivation of 6: To feel safe and secure Unconscious motivation of 7: Avoid pain and anxiety by continously focussing on wonderful unlimited possibilities in life Unconscious motivation of 8: To assert power and control over environment or other people in service to hiding or denying weakness or vulnerability in themselves from others who might leverage it against them and hurt them. Unconscious motivation of 9: To avoid conflict at all costs, maintain connection, status quo, conserve energy.

Dude this is all apart of every human being ever ,... the issue is that these people pull apart everything about us then depict all of them and making it unnecessarily complicated by over analysis 😢... We all want the same things emotionally in one way or another .... and all we need to do is bring love into this and stop hiding our emotions by avoiding them or over complicating them like in this video it's that simple lol

I wish i learned this when i was a child. So many of my negative experiences could have turned out positive. I will make sure my kids learn this at an early age.

The enneagram is NOT an ancient personality typing system, not unless for you ancient means the 1960's.

I'm glad I watched this. I've never seen the enneagram explained by a 4 before. It was fun! I've just noticed the 4 on the phone. Nice touch!

If, as you say, the 8 is the most controlling...then what is meant in AH Almaas' book - Facets of Unity - about the Holy Ideas....that with each type there is a specific reaction and a specific difficulty and the specific difficulty of the 4 is 'controlling'....the other types had their difficulties but controlling was specific to the 4...so how does that controlling differ to the 8 being controlling.....

So we are narcissists as children because we evolved that way? Not because of original sin? Plus, children can’t be narcissists in the real psychological definition…children are trusting, teachable and the most open to being loved. That is why Jesus said that you must become like a little child to enter the kingdom of God.

Pretending that there's a dichotomy that's always present of being under stress or not being under stress is not realistic.
