Ahh yes the college experience, well let me tell you. You don't miss out on anything in college because of ROTC. You have plenty of free time and a social life. You can go out and party and all that stuff. You just gotta be smart about it and not post it all over your social media Cus your commander WILL look on there to see if there's anything that shouldn't be. But I'm glad I could help!

Hey man, I just saw you vid. I'm a ROTC cadet at SJSU too, and I agree with everything you say. I'm a nursing major and this is my first semester of the program, and it's really tough. My class are quite difficult, and on top of that I have to balance my PT sessions and the LLAB. How are you doing in the program right now?
@A1CYoung
@A1CYoung 8 жыл бұрын
What's up Brian, sorry for such a late response. I just graduated basic training for the Air Force so I can only speak for the one semester I did before leaving for basic. All in all I did alright, I was noticed a lot and got all my stuff done. I knew a few people who were nursing majors and I understand your pain. It's tough to balance it all but in the end it's all worth it to get that commission. You just gotta keep your priorities straight and remember why you doing this. Best of luck to you!!

just out of curiosity after going through the ROTC program and joining the military does it pay for your college?
@truffer1145
@truffer1145 3 жыл бұрын
I realize this comment is 4 years old and you probably have already found out, but I’m just going to respond for those curious, because at one point I had the same question. From my research (keep in mind this is subject to change and I’m not ROTC so I could be wrong), but if you get a scholarship, and the scholarship is worth more than $2,000/year (I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere around that amount, I forgot the exact amount), the Air Force will pay for your college as long as you are in ROTC and serve your time after. Going this route will disqualify you from getting the benefits of the post 9/11 bill. If you join the ROTC without a scholarship, or the scholarship is worth less than $2,000/year, after your service you are eligible for the post 9/11 bill. The 9/11 bill can not be used to pay off previous school debts, but can help you pay for a masters degree or you can use it for your children for a certain amount of time past your military service.

@@truffer1145 there’s 3 different scholarships tho. One covers 100% for any college of your choice, another just pays 18,000 of your tuition straight up, and the other is part of your tuition for a public school

how did you get 4 days off? I want to take AFROTC since I want to go to ECU as my second main college choice, but I don't want to be bombarded with classes. Would You say that since being in rotc, your college experience is easier or harder than just taking basic classes? And If you know, Do you know if there are any cycling teams in ECU. Not a club but a competitive team

Yes ! 4 days it was sweeeeeet honestly it's just the luck of the draw, I made my class schedule early so I could sit there and plan out which classes would give me a 4 day weekend. And ROTC in the first two years is just basic classes. It did take up a little bit of time on the weekends sometimes because you have to do some volunteer stuff but it really isn't that bad. You're with you friends/cadets !

I currently have the chance of either doing AFROTC (one year graduate program) or go to OTS since I already have a Bachelors...I am torn between both and will start the process on both to see. Can you give me your opinion on this?
@A1CYoung

Idali Beltre Acevedo I'd say apply to OTS their acceptance rate for 2016 was 60 percent so it's the best bet
@ida4587
@ida4587 7 жыл бұрын
A1C Young Ok I will try that too, the Captain in the Detachment told me I have a great chance of entering to both programs since the AF is in dire need of highly qualified Officers. That's why they just re-opened the one year graduate (and undergraduate) program. I am thinking about the whole OTS 8 weeks vs AFROTC's Field Training (almost 4 weeks). I know field training is shorter because AFROTC is more gradual and divided (PT 3 times a week, LLAbs, classes all that) and OTS is more condensed... I think the whole year would be nice to get in shape by myself and by the PT I would do on the Detachment. Do you think I would be missing something in terms of (leadership experiences, camaraderie) if I go to one vs the other? Which one do you think would be the best more richer experience.

well you'd be crunched for time because selection for field training happens your sophomore year and the summer between your sophomore and junior year is when you go if you are selected. And since you're coming in your sophomore year. You are going to need to stand out a lot more in order to get that slot but it's done all the time so I wouldn't worry to much about it! Good luck!

Depends on the person, Air Force ROTC cadets like to pretend they are in the Air Force and act all big and tough cus they have a "uniform" that they didn't even earn. Cody, do you know anyone that was in the ROTC while studying a science major while working a part time job? That will be my situation this August. I might not have a social life for the next 4 years during semesters, however, I'm hoping you know people who not only had difficult classes, but also had a job. Did they quit? Did they succeed? I'll appreciate any feedback.

@A1CYoung 8 жыл бұрын
What's up dude, yes there was and is a lot of cadets that had very challenging courses such as nursing and computer science and engineering and worked a part time job. The advice they gave to me was just simply time management and balancing a healthy amount of work, school and social life. They are doing very well in problem but they also really want this so they are willing to put the work into it and maybe sacrifice going out with friends in order to study for a big test coming up. Wish you the best of luck !
