Was raised in Misawa for 14 years due to my dad's 2 tours there 20 years ago. Absolutely love Japan. I'm currently in the process of enlisting in the AF. My hope and dream is to be stationed at the base where I grew up.

I was stationed at Misawa AB from January 1986 to January 1988. I loved it there and wanted to extend but the needs of the Air Force came first. I am sure the base and local area have changed and I would love to see a video of what the base is like now.

I’m a college graduate in communications/marketing + a minor in Japanese and went a different industry after graduation, specifically supply chain management. A dream role of mine is to become a brand director for a major company and I’m considering the military and its perks and core mission to help me get to my future vision. I am considering Air Force for its fit and values, and your content and words were helpful. Really interested in the PA role. What general advice could you share to someone who is deciding military vs civilian route to achieving my future vision? Thank you bro.

The military is a perfect stepping stone/career. Use your degree and try to come in as an officer. PA is great but 90% of officer jobs are the same… they manage the unit. I wouldn’t get to wrapped up about the job, do your time, secure your benefits, save your money that way you never are trapped and can get out whenever you please.

Most fun I had was in the USAF. I spent 4 years at Yokota AB in the 1980s. There is nothing quite like the military and the opportunities it offers. I spent all my overseas time in the Pacific: Philippines, Japan and S. Korea. The orient is a great place to visit. Never made it to Europe. During that time, the Vietnam war finally ended, I saw the refugees and POWs come through Clark AB, Philippines. I try to encourage young kids to join, even for a 4 year tour. You serve your country and you get to do things you might not otherwise do.

Great video. AF Vet here from the Cold War. I was stationed at 2 bases in West Germany at the time. After my first base I had orders to Misawa but wound up going to Ramstein HQ on a special duty assignment. Ramstein was great but I have always wondered what I missed at Misawa.There are about 15 of us in a group chat that were stationed together at Ramsein HQ. 40 years after the fact. If you look at the patch (right shoulder of the uniform) you will see it’s a Wild Weasel patch and also shows that’s part of the 35th Fighter Wing. I worked with the F4 Wild Weasels back in the early 80s. So with that I’m assuming he is a maintenance troop which is part of the fighter wing. That doesn’t explain the facial hair however which is very much surprising to me as well. Typically if a shaving waiver is issued you will see hair on the entire face which you do see here as well. I will also say that the standards seem to have been way more relaxed since I retired in 1998. So I like it? NOPE but it’s not my call.

@TheWealthyWarrior_
@TheWealthyWarrior_ 17 күн бұрын
Most contracts will be 3 years now, so if you don’t extend your contract and get out after… you most likely will only be stationed at one base. There are short tours you could get that are 1 year long straight out of tech school though, so after the tour you would get Base of Preference (BOP) and get sent to another base.

Guard is by state and reserves is federal like active duty. In the Guard you pick your duty station and you can also pick your job if its open and you qualify for it. There are also AGR (Active Guard Reserve) positions in the guard that are like active duty.

Talk with an experienced AF veteran about which jobs are available in Europe (NOT A RECRUITER). Not all jobs are available at all bases. Conversely, if a job is available at ALL bases (like Security Forces) you also might be less likely to get assigned there. You'll be sent wherever the need is greatest, and folks with follow-on from Korea are more likely to get those slots.

Just focus on school, once you’re a senior you can think about enlisting or going to college, joining ROTC and becoming an officer.
@ancientburner
@ancientburner 2 ай бұрын
Agreed Focus on School and Prepare for the ASVAB if you are going to Enlist after high school. Study Hard: Make school a priority. Practice ASVAB Tests: Take practice tests to find out which subjects you need to improve on (Use Khan Academy, Grammar Hero (KZbin), or ASVAB practice books) Score High: The higher your ASVAB score, the more job options you'll have in the military. Consider the Space Force: If you're good at STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and interested in space, the Space Force could be a great option for you. Get Physically Active: Start exercising now if you are not already. This way, when you're 17 or 18 and ready to join, you won't have to rush to get in shape for Basic Military Training (BMT). Watch KZbin videos about BMT at Lackland, Texas to see what to expect. For Funsies: Begin learning the Air Force rank insignias. - You can also look at Airman's Manual (AFH 1-1) This manual covers essential topics such as military customs and courtesies, dress and appearance standards, basic first aid, and operational procedures. Familiarizing yourself with this manual can give you a solid foundation. -The Enlisted Force Structure (AFI 36-2618) known as the "Blue Book," this document outlines the roles, responsibilities, and expectations for enlisted members. Understanding this structure will help you grasp the hierarchy and your place within it. Hope this helps and best of luck on your journey! The college ROTC/Officer route is a GREAT option as well.
