It’s fun to hate on jones if you don’t recognize his greatness, or just do for the fact he’s a bad person. But genuinely, I thought Jones had talked about a fight with stipe all the way back in 2020 after his fight with Reyes, Aspinall was not even signed by then. I also remember Jones in 2022 trying to get a contract to fight Stipe, and Tom had also torn his acl a month or two before this. Jones was LHW champ at 23, and fought killers his entire career. He definitely has the right to end his career off against other great from his era. Why would he risk his record and legacy against a younger true heavyweight, that was not initially planned for. Nobody will remember the semantics of his last heavyweight bout, concerning Tom, but will remember his perfect record as double champ.

I think the last weigh in, he (Jones) was 254.7 or so, Stipe has come in as light as I believe 237.4ish or so a very long time. Their match is odd based on skill level developed over a very long time, meaning they have attained so much being active for the time period they assertively climbed the UFC ladder. Not sure about this fight pick because a lot of inactivity isn't the same for Stipe as other fighters, he has also remained very quiet because the heavyweight division had a lot of fighters retire without much of a celebortory action on the part of The UFC based on perhaps fight contract offers from other fight company promotions still perhaps pending for negotiation.
