ten hag didn't want to use Ugarte, and stubbornly stuck with tactics that time and again did not work. He also had a habit of making very bad or no changes mid-game. Which is why we would often see man utd perform well for 30 mins, then the opposition would figure us out and change tactics. ETH would do nothing, or do the wrong thing and we would get dominated.

Because they have 2 different issues. In multiple games Garnacho did several mistakes that literally make you pull your hair out, taking a shot/ dribbles instead of passing it to a player who is CLEARLY in a better position. These are obvious mistakes and easier to pinpoint. For Rashford it's really complicated because how the heck do you fix him

The difference is Rashford slows down the attack then pass the ball backwards, Garnacho runs directly towards the goal and lose the ball. In one scenario, we keep the ball in other we lose the ball. Neither is great, but id prefer Rashford.

Every player that came in stunk under ETH. Zero tactics, zero understanding of personell strength and how to utilise them to get the best out of his players, outcoached every single game..

At least for me, one definite difference is the midfield: under ETH we had very little or no active defensive midfield and the opposition would run right through us, hence we were at the bottom of the European statistics in terms of shots fired against us. With an inactive midfield, we were weak. Now, under Ruud, we appear a lot stronger in the middle with Ugarte and Casemiro.

Ineos because knowingly or unknowingly they undermined Ten Hags position by bringing in Ruud and the other coach who's name escapes me, they were both also top flight managers, this wouldn't have looked good to players ( even if it was Erik's suggestion) and some of them played in a way that suggested they had no faith in Ten Hag and knew his replacement was already at the club ( Ruud ). I'm not attacking Ruud at all, he's a proper legend and one of my favourite players of all time - I just wish with what's about to happen now ( Ruud leaving ) Ineos had not agreed to him coming in and replaced Erik in the summer. Ten Hag was a dead man walking the minute they said they were talking to other managers.

Part of the issue with Ten Hag this season was playing players out of their specialised positions. It was clear after two games that Dalot was really struggling at LB, costing us points constantly. He didn’t try Mazraoui there once. It’s clear that he’s better suited to that position than Dalot is. Then we have the lack of playtime for Amad. Sure, he dropped one or two bad performances, but who hadn’t in the team? He’s used to playing in that role more than Garnacho or Rashford. Then we have the Ugarte situation, in which Ten Hag kept him on the bench far more than he needed to. One thing Ugarte has going for him is that he won’t be ran through more than maybe once per game, whilst Mainoo, Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno were being overrun. You have a better chance of winning football matches with players who play in their preferred positions, such as Dalot, Garnacho, Amad, and Ugarte. It’s a key function of Amorim’s style to have specialised players for each position. Rarely do you see a player in his Sporting team play 3 or 4 positions over the course of a season.

United are a pass it forward at pace team and that’s what Rudd has bright back . Casemiro went off the rails because Ten Hag wanted him to be Frankie De Jong. Now he can be Casemiro again. Now we have a new guy who has “his” way with his own formation. Guarantee not to work with this bunch. Don’t see how this will work. What Rudd has them doing suited their personnel, now we have a guy who’s going to force them to do it his way. Crap.

If Amorim has as much nous as I think he does then he will be a bit more pragmatic than that at least until he's sussed out the players and the Premier League, especially with Champions League qualification very much still up for grabs. Ten Hag's stubbornness and intransigence this season, and for much of the previous one, over leaving the midfield overexposed probably affected our points tally more than any other tactic It's obvious that Amorim is more personable and charismatic than ETH and not having the popular Steve McLaren around anymore made Ten Hag's job that much more difficult, making use of Ruud, at least until the end of the season, seems a sensible move to me.

Sure , he'll be successful , if United go out and get him players that suit his system. Most Managers would. But Management is about getting the best out of what you have, assuming you have some talent available. United are not a slow build up from the back team. RVN got them back to playing where playing the ball back to the GK is considered a plague. Get it up the pitch as quick as you can and run at people. Fernandes flourishes in the 10, they are better suited with a defensive double pivot. This will be a test of Amorim and we will see if he comes in an changes to his prefer formation. If he does that after they have just won 3 out of four then we will know that he is going to fit them into his way instead of find a way that suits them. And that ain't gonna work.

The only difference Ruud has made is likely to be an arm over the shoulder and different type of communication, plus playing Ugarte, and he’s been quicker to make substitutions when players are playing badly, not as decisive as we’d all like, but still better. So some small tweaks but nothing exceptional. Still boring football
