Really enjoyed that. I’ve had a ‘69 mkii, Mas Malo and “big box” mk1 Soulbender for a couple of years now (I have quite a few Fulltone pedals like FD2’s, DejaVibe and OF2 Octafuzz and have been waiting for awhile to get the ‘70 (also the small enclosure 70-108BC version) which arrived today direct from Fulltone, I haven’t had the chance to try it out yet with work so I was just watching this for some fun as I’d seen it before and love the tones you achieve, that Germino top sounds great too. I also run a KT66 powered Marshall amp (a 2466 Vintage Modern) with G12C Greenback speakers in a Marshall Vintage Modern 425B cab, I have a few very interesting S-type partscasters that hold up very well with vintage examples and a couple of Reverend Club King guitars, I can’t wait to get the ‘70 fired up through my Marshall tonight!

Hey I enjoyed the playing! I have one of the 70's , a 69 and a Distortion and a few more from Mr. Fuller. I liked the 69 and the Distortion pedals, but could never bond with the 70's pedal. At one point I quit trying, then one day pulled it out and was looking at it and to my stupidity I found that it uses 2- 9 volt batteries. I had always tried it with a new battery only to find there was a second battery that was bone dead. After putting 2 new batteries in it was revived and still used today.

That is a great sounding amp,- dig the Weber's.Heard A LOT of fuzzes, and unless you want stupid high gain, I don't think it gets any better than these Fulltone's, along with the Octafuzz.The Soul Bender (Tone Bender) circuit might have some competition, but that's very much a matter of equipment choices and personal tastes.Beautiful with the Strat single coils.

Now that is a quality demo, especially liked the quick runthrough at the end as it's very difficult to hear small differences when too much time has passed. If you don't mind I'm mainly looking at the rolled off clean tone, I've always wanted that Hendrix/Vaughn/Blackmore clean but didn't know it was done this way. My ear says maybe the "69 but I understand germanium can be more temperamental, can you suggest something? Thanks for posting, cheers.

Thank! I did this a few years ago. My favorites now are these. The Germanium and BC 108 doing that thing you’re talking about…always hit the Fuzz Face first for best cleanup tone. Search Dustin on Facebook kzbin.info/www/bejne/m16veZl-jKp_hdk

Great point on component values - the position of the "pointer" on the pot is arbitrary. Between component revisions, pot values and tolerance drift, the clock position on any two pedals or amps will vary a little or a lot. We're musicians, so we should use our ears more than our eyes

First of all, you're an amazing player. Sounds just like Winterland. Second, would you recommend a Fulltone 70 over a Hendrix Fuzz Face, if you have any experience with them?
@emersonswinford8949 Жыл бұрын
The Hendrix FF is pretty good, especially for the price. About a year after doing this video, I started getting into the Dustin Francis fuzz faces. They are expensive, but excellent pedals sonically and visually. I did a video if you check my channel. If you have the coin, I’d recommend one of those.

TO EMERSON SWINFORD Dear Sir.....I've had big box 69, '70 ,Soul bender and recently picked up a newer 70 w/bc108c, I also have Analogman Sunface w NKT275 white dotted and a sun lion with NKT275"White dot" in the fuzz AND in the beano section and also a early Crest audio made by Dave Fox (bc108c) Honestly every fuzz face I have tried is a little different and I believe that is so because since there are so few parts in there,each one tends to make a big difference. AND you are correct in NOT turning all knobs to noon".....that just does not apply with FF....although I do tend to run "fuzz" at full up. I'd like to tell you that I am so glad you don't try to "BE" Jimmi or play exactly like Jimmi because there were things you did (some of your licks) that sounded fabulous and they were things that Jimmi never did....so I found myself thinking "their were a few of your liks that Jimmi himself would have said.."Hey man, stop...show me how you did that last one" Yes a few of yours WERE THAT cool. And thanks for the comparison because anyone who has experience with a Fuzz face could see how different each one really is

Daren Anderson thanks! I actually haven’t used humbuckers much w these. I like how strat pickups especially vintage output ones work w Fuzz Faces. Humbuckers tend not clean up as well, but prob better if you have a treble bleed capacitor installed on your guitar. Sorry for not the greatest answer.

Great demo. I am not in agreement thst you should have used a mom strat, dsl, or whatever. You have what you have. I also agree that this idea that everything should be turned to noon is just not an accurate presentation. This is exactly why so many hate the ds1. The sweet spot with the tone kniv on that particular pedal is around 9-10 o clock. Every pedal has its zone and sometimes noon isn't it. Anyhow, just my two cents. Great demo, and great example of what to actually play on a demo. Clean to heavy, and chords to lead.

Al Adams thank you. Yeah I have a few killer sounding Nash strats that sound every bit as good as the ‘66. Not every vintage strat is great, some are average, some even suck. what if we put the wah first then the fuzz? is it just like the usual fuzz face?
@emersonswinford89497 ай бұрын
Yes. I modded my wah w a buffer and it works well and doesn’t screw w the fuzz when you bypass the wah
@pigsyj50083 жыл бұрын
Is it true that it doesn't work well with a Wah? If so, what would be better for a Hendrix sound with a Wah?
@emersonswinford89493 жыл бұрын
Most fuzz faces will make this crazy oscillation when you put the wah before and turn on. Some Wah companies now offer a little circuitry that will remedy this. I bought and installed the one from Foxx Roxx. Works great. Listen to the first song on Axis Bold as Love, called EXP. at around 1:30, and 1:50 you can here what that oscillation sounds like.

I have a 69 and a 70. The 70 is the best and most versatile gain pedal I have. Mainly with Humbuckers and the interaction with vol and tone controls. But I'd really like to know how Hendrix got that sound on "highway chile" solo. It is a very creamy and velvety sound for a germanuim fuzz face. It was early 1967. I think the vol control of the guitar was "almost" on 10.

Is there any truth to the idea that fuzz sounds better with a battery?
@emersonswinford89493 жыл бұрын
Yes. Fuzz face type pedals seem to be picky more so than say a Tone Bender. The real difference or most obvious is using the more modern Alkaline batteries versus the old zinc batteries. Seems less harsh w older zinc. But one man’s (or womens) harsh is another man’s excellent cutting treble 😁. And I would also say that everybody’s hearing is different, for instance I doubt my wife hears much difference between a TS9 and a boss DS1distortion box.

i gave it a thumbs down only cuz he uses a real 66' strat, lol. It would be much more realistic and universal to use a MiM strat or at least a newer USA strat (like everyone on earth has) to demo these pedals...A 66 strat will make a cheap chinese Donner fuzz sound good. The pups just dont seem to have the same tone to me. He also uses an expensive Marshall clone amp with graet cab and speakers..again not really used by anyone that is less inclined to this stuff. Maybe next time demo on a new DSL, or Fender, or Blackstar etc..alot of videos do this same thing. Outside of that I liked hearing it thru stuff I will probably never have.
@Stratman782 жыл бұрын
If push comes to shove, you can always build these fuzz pedals with the Fulltone mods & can make a Marshall clone as well. As for the '66 Strat, that is out of the question. I do dream of owning a vintage Strat from 1965 (when they started the large headstock) to 1971 (before Fender went with the 3-bolt neck).
