Don’t worry, the “Electrifying Streets” was about providing charging via power pole units, etc for those who don’t have off street parking. Definitely not wireless charging while you drive which is what I think you meant?

I was there most of Saturday and every Giga theatre session was standing room only. About 15,000 people attended. A great first show and they've said they'll be back next year. I read something about the car companies that declined to attend (as listed in guide)- the general response from quite a few was they will turn up next year...

Regarding long haul trucks - have a look at the recent video that Robert did of an Aussie company that converts semi's to electric. The battery systems are modular, with a swap over time of around a minute and great specs.

18:17 "Can I just put my credit card in, please? That's all I ask" as you show the tap&go logo 20:06 "but I haven't really seen any solar" - I suppose rooftop solar is taken for granted in Australia - 1 in 3 homes have it!

Dave you need to make a video about battery management with active balancing, which is the most important part of an electric car. It prevents the whole thing from going up in flames.

I've heard there is a mob in Australia that does battery swap conversion for the short haul truck market. Pretty cool idea.

Best thing about the UK shows are the test drives. Managed to test drive about 7 cars over a couple of days at the last one which gives you the ability to narrow down the field if looking to get one.,

Don't blame Mr. Llewellyn for not wanting to be on any list containing Elon these days. 🤣 Really cool conference. I like that they stuck to the subject matter of EVs and charging. Solar and home power is a big enough deal it probably needs to be its own conference.

7:15 I watched Formula E Races on the TV, when they first started. The batteries go flat so fast, that they have to pit (box) half way into the race, and the driver gets into another car. Was Volvo & Porsche there?

The new ones do the whole race and power management is part of the race strategy.

And to show how fast the technology has moved on: they don't do that anymore (and haven't for a few years) - the battery now lasts the entire race.

A nice little expo, not too crowded, it looks like I could even have some fun there :) Electric bikes and motorbikes, now that's something interesting. I kinda like the Savic beast. The T-Rev would technically be an enclosed motortrike. I also like EV conversions of classic cars, but here's where my real-deal-vintage loving part is at conflict with the modern tech appreciating one. Sure, that shiny Volkswagen bug or bus looks lovely on the outside, but since they're more and more of a rarity, preserving the historical originality is what matters. Oh, and honestly... I'd still love to see a DMC12 conversion, haha! Loved the teardown part, and seeing you riding that Tern bike reminds me of Workcycles in Amsterdam. A world-famous company that specializes in high quality cargo/utility bikes, just like I love them :)

Great walk around, being a Tesla owner on the road charging is never a problem. Every other charging networks have to get their act in gear, keep hearing all the stories of how unreliable and difficult it can be on road trips. Those poor experiences will turn people off from switching to electric.

There is an entire cottage industry in the EV Swap Electromod future of classic cars. Your interview was in front of some very nice examples including a couple of examples that came down from Queensland with @chargedgarage and @TractionEV having a Tesla swapped Kombi and Hyper9 powered Landover Series.

byd is not only the biggest battery manufacturer but also bigger than VW group, I mean Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lambo, Skoda, Seat , MAN & SAAB trucks. Warren Buffet invested around 2008 about 300 Million or so now worth 9 Billion Still wonder how such show pays off and why the australian car industry is not able to offer their own show or exhibition. Anyhow, progress has slowed down, only optimisations of previous cars and LFP as the main and cheap battery for every car. Maybe we will see 10% more range from the modular battery transition to the fully built blade pack but that is it, maybe another 5 to 10% from the 800V systems - but beyond that you can only see first NIO cars and battery swap stations as alternative. And then a lot of chinese copy cats entering the market with far too high prices for the value they offer cause in case of break down you are still screwed and nightmares appear like for a MG4 just 4 months old no longer willing to dc charge. You can not ride such car - and it took 10 days to find out that nothing had been wrong cause a technician arrived and updated the firmware of all drive units . Nothing else, but a lot of manual firmware removals and updates till the car charged again. Yes, you could get a rental car but only for 7 days and then the rental car has to be brough back to the spot you had picked it up regardless if MG has fixed your car or not. They had not achieved that, at that day 7 they still had no clue at all. Not everything as great as shown at least here in well populated central europe with lots of MG service stations but without the knowledge needed.

@9:25 is a very bad copy of the Campagna T-Rex. Really bad copy... And they even did a copy of the name... lol Also, there is some really big issues with it as I can see, atleast for the north american market. Some of them, that I can see in the video: - Plexiglass windshield is not impact resistant - Windshield but no wiper - No windshield defrogger - No rear view mirror (mandatory even if you can't use it! seriously...) - Rear light colors are wrong - Missing lots of light reflectors - Side view mirrors appear to be too small There seems to also have lots of issues with the dash, indicators and lots of other things. And safety!!!

since most of the electrical energy is supplied by coal plant in australia, does driving EVs make real sense ? from a global warming point of a view.
@thephantom1492
@thephantom1492 Жыл бұрын
Yes it does actually. Coal power plant have better air cleaner solution than gas car have. Plus the higher efficiency in energy conversion makes it even better. However... The fabrication of the battery, and the recycling is a big issue. They JUST started to recycle the lithium battery! And from what I read not all of them can be recycled... Expect to break even, with coal, at about 100k miles / 160k km... Which might not be doable with the battery...
@marvintpandroid2213
@marvintpandroid2213 Жыл бұрын
Almost all houses in Sydney have solar, coal is about 51% of Australian output and is rapidly going down as more solar comes on line. Even if 100% of the power was from coal, EV use would produce less pollution and if you have solar, like Dave then you can be 100% coal free and pay nothing. But sure, let's not let facts get in the way of propaganda.
@station240
@station240 Жыл бұрын
Problem is you are treating Australia as one equal whole, it's not. Some states are far further into renewable power than others. South Australia is 100% renewable/Natural Gas, removed it's Coal Power many years ago, and exports renewables to the national grid. Victoria is also getting rid of it's life expired Coal Power Stations. Tasmania is almost all Hydro Electric Power, but connected to the national grid. The problem is NSW and Queensland, they both have conservative governments most of the time, so have way too much Coal Power still. Western Australia is a unique problem, not connected to the national grid, and somewhat reliant on coal sourced from a bankrupt coal mine, solar power is actually creating problems for the grid there at the moment.
@robthomas7232
@robthomas7232 Жыл бұрын
EV cars tend to get more environmentally friendly as the grid moves to more renewables. Think the business case is inevitable for aus to move to solar and wind so coal will be ramped down.
