Phenomenal job guys!!! At first I was like... "you should be shot for chopping the top on the cab...", but watching the video, the cab is at it's original height. Small/low cab for sure! Excellent work... That the engine is original is pretty great too. Thanks for saving this treasure and sharing it with us.

Diamond REO. And the Man behind REO is the Man behind Oldsmobile. And then this has a Cummins in it. This is revenge for every time someone dropped an Chevy Anchor engine into something where it didn't belong and Mochevrolested it. And it is funny that it is called the Cadillac of truck, because the trim on the front of it is definitely Pontiac from the forties and Fifties at 5:08. With a giant grill that is basically designed after a 1937 Oldsmobile. You should have kept the look of the window cranks if nothing else.

Stock Diamond T cabs from this era looked like they have a chopped top. I would be tempted to add an inch or two to the cab height if it weren't a fabrication nightmare.

Beautiful job! Thie owner must really love this truck! If this resto & costomize job cost less than $50K, I would be surprised. I'm thinking the cost was closer to $100K.
@CustomClassics
@CustomClassics Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The cost was quite a bit higher than $100k. Diamond T never made a crew cab, or had a bed that long, or those rear fenders, bumpers, interior... don't forget the Cummins. Most of the truck was fabricated by hand, but tastefully done so it didn't look "off" or too obnoxiously customized as many truck builds are nowadays. There are a lot of sneaky pieces to this puzzle that you don't see at first glance. Customer is VERY pleased with the results and it seems so is the rest of the custom truck community.

Yes it is a beautiful truck,yes the workmanship is excellent, yes I am bothered there was no decent side view.It seems to me that not many camera(PERSONS ) know much about motor vehicles.I would LOVE to have that Truck. (But of course I would put another axle under the back make a real truck out of it,and two stacks.

Certainly, one could have found a less modern diesel engine. Actually, in 1947, gas engines were still common in that sort of truck, so that really broadens the engine options. It's always a disappointment to see modern engines in a classic vehicle. For the most part, the body work is great. Those running boards look a bit too modern, though. Same for the lights molded into the back. And that rear window opening should have remained its original size. Inside, those seatbelts are completely unnecessary; those should have been left out. The seats and the center console are way too modern looking, and don't look all that comfortable. I'd be hard pressed to think of a more appropriate vehicle for that quilted diamond sort of interior treatment (which would tie in nicely with those 60's era clearance lights). That was a missed opportunity, and would have gone much better with the vintage theme. The window switches could have been sourced from a midcentury Imperial, Lincoln, Cadillac. Again, to maintain a vintage look, instead of the unattractive "restomod" look. And, of course, the disproportionately large rims. It needs smaller rims to accommodate taller sidewalls. That would both look and ride better (taller sidewalls = greater shock absorption, which is the entire point of pneumatic tires, that gets mostly defeated by those stupid low profiles) Overall, the truck looks great, aside from details mentioned. Mostly minor things that majorly distract from a lot of hard and talented work. The thumbnail asks "Is this the best classic truck build?" Well, it could have been. Starting with a Diamond T showed great promise. The talent was clearly there to do it. But, bad decisions were made, and the truck sadly missed the mark. No, it is not the best classic truck build. It's just another forgettable restomod, with trendy details that will look dated in a few years.
