After nearly 20 yrs of fire service it still amazes me how departments forget they have the best weapon for large fires on top of the rig. Arrive on scene and get the deck gun in service “ aka master stream “ and knock it down , it takes GPMs to beat BTUs .

I was wondering the same thing: why not focus on exposure first? They also coukd have loaded the deck gun once in front of the store. I'm a researcher for reducing firefighter cancers and it always shocks me when those on the first hose, even if a bit back from the fire, don't mask up. Just bc you don't have smoke doesn't mean that there isn't particulate matter being breathed in that you can't see and that can do just much damage to your airway as the chemicals in fire smoke can, especially with a shop full of chemicals!! When Rescue Rescue was still on, I always hated watching the crews from NJ bc they'd have people at the structure entrance with a face full of smoke and no mask and the same for those venting the roof. Really bad thing is the state has a standards document that you use masks if operating hoteliers, on an aerial, or above the fire line at any structure fire (especially roof tops)!!!

This department needs to get up to date. The reverse lay went out use decades ago when engines started carrying 4 and 5 inch supply lines. One attack line is not sufficient for this amount of fire. I believe most departments would have used the deck gun and more hand lines. The use of the elevated platform is unnecessary.

I agree there is a time and place for a deck gun... But there is one thing I would like to say.... A deck gun goes through a ton of water and for all we know, there could supply issues with water. I was at a fire where there was a pressure problem and after about two minutes of a deck gun, they couldn't fix or establish a back up supply for about five minutes and the entire house was gone in that time.

For a tiny single story building, what was the point of two tower ladders, especially with gobs and gobs of power lines and poles. All they needed was room to work (vs. Tower Ladders arriving and making extra work for guys trying to get more hand lines working. Seems silly. It doesn't look like either tower ladder was even deploying any water, they were just in the way.

Once a large quantity of rubber tires is set ablaze, the tires put out so much heat, they turn the firehose water into steam instantly, making it very hard to put out fires like this one. This tire shop looked clean and well-run before the fire incinerated it - HOW did such a fire as this start? This particular conflagration would be more understandable if this were some trashy dump of a tire shop - but this one clearly isn't! I hope none of the employees was hurt, and I also hope this shop's owners have good insurance coverage. This particular shop deserves to be rebuilt.
