Looked like some scrambling on their part but it does not take long to put the hose on and turn the valve over. I was timing them because it usually can be done within 45 seconds if you have experience. But in all my years, I have not ever seen or heard of fireman training with fire hydrants. It doesn't matter where someone lives or who they are; losing a car right now can be absolutely devastating. I have seen two families lose their cars to fires and it had nothing to do with EVs and it was in the state of PA where having a car is absolutely essentional for work and everything else...it can happen anywhere. losing your car, your home, and then potentially your job because of no transportation....I don't wish that on anyone. A lot of people are struggling and lowered their insurance coverage to deal with the costs: this is happening everywhere. To everyone judgeing her for screaming about her car: it was 4am and this is what she woke up to. She saw the cars on fire and may have thought it was just the cars and hadn't spread to the building yet; reacting in a way that is seemingly illogical, or even overly hysterical for the wrong reason, is completely normal in a situation like this, epecially when you have just been jolted out of sleep. This is exactly why emergency response people have so many hours of active training; they have to train to react calmly in these situations. Fires happen everywhere, to anyone one, at any time, for many reasons and they always have. Bravo to the firefighters.

You can not see the 5th car, so it's not possible to assume the 5th car wasn't an EV. The story reported 5 cars destroyed, at the beginning we see 4 cars. I googled this story and 4 or 5 articles that reported on it said it was under investigation. It could well have been an EV but it's not confirmed or it's being downplayed.
@WhiteNoise4935 ай бұрын
@mikeconnor3602 Okay, but regardless, as a firefighter, every car/truck fire I've ever fought has been a gas or diesel vehicle, so your point is moot. Combustion vehicles catch on fire frequently without needing to be in a wreck. It's not really unless an EV's batteries get damaged in a crash that you really run the risk of them catching fire. If it does catch fire, then god help you but they don't catch fire just sitting there.

Agree, 30 years on the job. When I was a firefighter you were expected to be masked up and ready to go as soon as you got off the rig. I expected my crews to be the same way when I was a captain. I think that the rigs now do not have BA'S in the seats they are now in cabinets which takes time. A deck gun would be good especially with that hydrant right there could have darkened it down just by dumping the tank. I have done that a number of times works pretty well. Thanks for your service

What's very unsettling - just how quiet they can be. They often just make gentle, campfire popping noises at first. This video illustrates that. Gives me the chills. Two nearly-deadly house fires I ran to sounded just like that. First one was in a kid's bedroom, with the two 4-6 year olds wandering outside on their own. Fire was out the window, licking at the roof eves. Gently! I first mistook it for a backyard fire - until I realized it's midnight on a Tues. Learned my lesson after that one.

I knew as soon as the woman came screaming that there would be at least a few comments about it. It’s really easy to be a couch warrior, but you don’t know her situation. You don’t know if she only has liability insurance, or if she has something important inside of the car. Also, I would assume her apartment is upstairs in the building as well, the description is a little bit unclear, but it seems to indicate that somebody’s pet was still inside, could be hers as well, or another pet or loved one she is unable to get ahold of. Often in a moment of panic people will hyperfocus on one thing, in this case it appears to be her car, even though it is obviously destroyed. On another note, I am seeing a lot of comments about electric cars, it doesn’t look like any of these cars are electric vehicles, I am seeing a Subaru outback, a Hyundai Veloster, a Chevy Cruise, and a BMW sedan, probably a 5 series, maybe a 4 series, but from the taillights alone I can tell it’s pre-electric car era for BMW. Edit: I should’ve watched the whole video before commenting, looks like the BMW is a 5 series, but my comment stands, regardless, definitely pre-electric, also electric BMWs would have a badge indicating so on the vehicle. I can’t for the life of me make it out, but the other car that I originally did not see closest to the wall is, but I find it hard to believe that it’s an electric car being that firefighters are putting water directly on it.

@dang485 ай бұрын
@@brianfancher2052 Yes, something happened all right. And that could be anything that would cause a fire. Perhaps an electrical fault with the car, arson, an electrical fault in the building itself, improper storage of combustibles, a carelessly discarded cigarette butt etc. Fires don't happen, they're caused. Even if there are no cars stored in the garage, a fire can still occur. The only way it can't occur is to tear the building down completely and don't build anything there.

Attention: Kia / Hundai have recently issued "spontaneous combustion" warnings for their vehicles. No, not their EV's. Old gas ones from 2010-2020 ish. (I don't see one here in the video, but it is worth mentioning, for public awareness.) "Do not park indoors or near any other vehicles/structures." This is only the LATEST chapter of the saga of the incredible, flammable KIA recalls. First, several years ago, they blamed the KIAs undercarriage (while driving on freeways!) fires on faulty fuel injectors. (Which would break off at freeway speeds and spray the engine with fuel.) Class Actions / settlements have already occurred. But now there's ANOTHER safety recall - this time, they blame faulty fuses in circuit boards. The recall notice basically states "if the check engine light comes on, pull over and jump out of your vehicle immediately." Not just EV's, but some gas-powered cars are extremely dangerous. Since KIA / Hundai have not controlled this issue for more than a decade - they are on my "never buy" list. Look it up!
