As long as sub's can't attack from below, they are of very little use. If they could, it would be a game changer as the surface ships have no SONAR. (No SONAR is implemented as far as I can see, thus they can't attack from below).

I’m a former Aegis Operations Specialist, who served as TIC/FTC in 7th fleet between 86-91 through the Gulf War as Zulu Foxtrot on datalink DSA and AAWC&R. I reported the SCUD detections by the Mobile Bay SPY-1 in Feb. 91 reported by datalink and voice to ZW and too Patriot batteries in the link who correlated and engaged them, confirming the Aegis BMD capability we have today. Mobile Bay and her crew were recognized by the Missile Defense Agency with their Pathfinder award in Jan. 2022. As I’ve taken the dive into DCS with thrust master hotas warthog, rudders, and TrackIR running on an old ASUS Core I7 with NVIDIA GTX 960M. It has 3 usb and DVD I/o and seems to work well though not on my Panasonic 3-D hdtv (accept watching your videos oddly). I plan to get a an ultrawide curved monitor soon while I continue to configure my hotas and rig. I started old school by getting the F-14B as I’m very interested in learning the air role of my surface job as a RIO. I was a qualified AIC but never got to use it other than to get the qual I was so married to AAW and datalink track coordination and management. I’d welcome any support here. The videos I’m watching don’t convey the command and reporting C2/3 environment I’m used to but otherwise I have 10 active duty years of seat time experience shipboard. I’ve particularly enjoyed your videos with Naval engagements, planning and operations too as I was heavily involved with It. Would love to see Aegis ship CIC’s in operation even on a limited scale like AAW, datalink and shipboard AIC. I built Aegis training simulations for these roles for the Navy many years for ships specs, so know of an existing front end from the console level operations. I imagine something similar could be added to DCS with similarly talented coders and SME’s… I’m hooked. So would appreciate any bones 🦴 to get me flying- even a ride or setup advice for my gear… look forward to getting to know some of you in similar situations. Thanks guys! Veteran in Knoxville

The rules would be that there is only one carrier on each side. no support ships, one AWACS, and the carriers would be randomly positioned on the map and programmed to move in a large circular orbit of a hundred nm or more, with their radars turned off. Each carrier will have a limited supply of aircraft, weapons and fuel. What ever side sinks the opposing carrier wins; any other outcome would be a draw. The new Marianas map would be prefect for this.

Well done, lads, that was a fascinating video to watch. Suggestion though: more division of labor, with designated Air to Air and Air to Surface roles assigned. Perhaps the air marshal could direct the air combat, and the admiral could have a smaller allotment to prosecute the anti-shipping force. Some pilots could swap roles, if the enemy was to catch on.

@CMDRSweeper

Probably the most realistic you are going to get to a navel fight like this is either Janes' Fleet Command, CMANO or the best, Dangerous Waters. The latter was contract built as a sonar trainer for the US Navy and is a bit submarine focused, but they do behave a bit more realistic, and with the Reinforced Alert mod, you get fairly realistic behavior and counters to your moves. If you place the ships too close though and start spamming torpedoes in there, you can still have them run into each other and sink themselves, so some planning is required.

Fantastic idea and a very good video. As stated in other comments before, lessons to be learned for this particular scenario: 1st thing to do is to send the carriers south at flank speed followed by the rest as a shield. The carriers should go one after another for the last one to take all the hits. 2nd: Sendt the Moskvas north at flank speed and as soon as they have fired all they have, sendt them after the carriers - still at flank speed. I have not done the math, but if you can bring the carriers out of range of the surface to surface missiles it would be a very good thing. 3rd: Divide your air force into two, one forming a shield about 60-70 miles north and ONLY doing defensive work, not to be lured further north. The other group is naturally to take out the red fleet. As the missiles (in DCS) seems to always go for nearest ship, keep the less expensive ships closest to the enemy. Each frigate can suck up a lot of missiles (don't tell the crew). And I must say that it was excellent GCI work, but may bee the GCI should focus on the attack force and the admiral on the defence force.

Great Show! A bit of advice. 1 - People in any group should all be in like one Discord channel, so they can freely talk with each other; you can designate one to record audio. 2 - Admirals should have a plan of 'attack' from the get-go and should have time to get setup. Then they present them to you before hand. 3 - focus on the presentation, albeit its probably very fun if you play.

This was a lot of fun to watch. :) I don't know nuthin about naval/air tactics, but I learned a lot from watching this, and rather enjoyed the ebb and flow of the battle. I was on my seat when it appeared the Reds were about to overwhelm the blue ships while all the fighters were across the way and a trainload of harpoons were inbound. I noticed that for the most part, the radio communication was professional and disciplined, particularly by the Air Marshal. There were times, though, when everyone was talking over each other and not efficiently. Additional designated radio channels might have been useful, albeit challenging from the perspectives of both presentation and Discord's logistics. But strict radio discipline would definitely have helped, including the convention of identifying yourself when requesting assignment. I think it would have been better to have Cap either do the play-by-play analysis or be the admiral. Despite the win, I think having to do both was too much to manage. Maybe also assign a "Captain" role whose job is to manage the ships so that the Admiral can manage the overall battle. Although I recognize that most want the fun job of flying the jets, so finding participants might be hard. But all in all, an amazing battle and great video.

Excellent fun video GR! Auburn did an outstanding job as the air controller! Thank you! For the exercise A) Well done and thanks for being inclusive on carriers so that everyone could play regardless of modules purchased. B) No worries on realistic or not in regards to For/Opfor. Air and naval exercises are done all the time where similarly armed craft are pitted against each other. That's how I looked at it, so basic strategy and far more tactical for CAP screens and antiship. Well done! As for actual naval persons coming in to captain the ships I doubt thst would make mich difference. The ship capabilities and handling in DCS is very limited it seems with no control over offensive or defensive missiles or guns.

Fantastic first run for this scenario. Few things to modify in my humble opinion. I think the fleets need to be further apart at the start so they don't just start shooting at each other instantly. HAving both sides being able to see each other really messes with tactics too. No chance for anyone to sneak in behind. Having more than one AIrboss might be handy for better control over Ainti AIr vs Anit Shipping. It was a bit of a hot mess, which I'm sure everyone expected. Flights didn't seem to be done in pairs like you'd expect a real squadron would operate. Personally I would have gone gunning for the AWACS sooner. Over all tho it was awesome and I thank you all for a thoroughly enjoyable video.

Hello Mr. Cap, nice to see you all swabbing out the decks finally. In the USN, the "Air Marshal" is titled Commander, Air Wing (was Group) or "CAG". I had to chortle a little bit over the CSG formations. IRL the ships are arranged in rings; HVU's in the center, with AAW units outward and ASW's as the "pickets". So, Carriers, AOR's, major Amphibs (fixed wing carriers) and Ticos in the center, and now, Burkes doing double duty as AAW/ASW (or Perrys as ASW, if you want to use them). The RN would use Type 23's as ASW pickets. Russian Kirovs/Slavas would in the center with the other HVU's, and so on. As for the "ship" movements, all ships in the CSG sail in a common direction, the "Path of Intended Motion" (PIM), but the individual units in the outer rings will sail in assigned "boxes" (especially important for passive ASW). I'll skip the Subs, but IRL, they can make a real mess. Here are a few wiki articles, if you're interested. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_strike_group en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Carrier_Group_tactics en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_United_States_Navy_carrier_air_operations

Something I remember from my time in the Navy. Maybe you guys are aware too but didn't have enough players. But there needs to be multiple controllers controlling different aspects. And if possible cats 3 and 4 need to be disabled after initial surge. That is the main thing that makes a Super carrier "Super" The ability to quickly empty the deck with 4 cats then the ability to land AND launch simultaneously. The only thing I could offer currently is ship control or air control. I'm still trying to successfully cold start my Tomcat.

If you guys worked in pairs and always stay with your wing man you would have more luck and survival would be incredibly higher. And would make management of planes for flight control

!!!!Fantastic battle!!!! It was a nail biter the whole way! I know this is an older video and I have no real life naval experience but to me it would seem that if you would go after the ships that shoot surface to air first and then the ships that shoot surface to ground, then the carriers would be wide open. Thanks for all the great content.

Maybe you should be more evasive with those ships. Turn them around for the other CIWS to take a shot at missiles when they're reloading the first one?

Enjoying this at 1hr. Just to say, at approx 50 mins your opponent redeployed his fleet took the initiative which you gave him when you ordered your anti-ship planes to continue to target the carriers as a counter. In doing so, sending them through a gauntlet they could now be sinking. Let's see how this ends up....

that was epic Tactically, to get around all the SM2's being wasted at the start probably need to stagger the escorts at specific distances to provide escalating levels of coverage to the carriers

Tactics - Gather aircraft in groups and come at them from multiple vectors to overwhelm defense around the carrier group. Don't just attack in singles as you spawn. Use a wingman at a minimum. good job being persistent, now gather in pairs.
