Mk, a city focused around the car. Sure there are cycle ways but unless you're a local you will get lost. And its impossible to leave MK without venturing onto a 70mph dual carriageway.
@Seb512 Жыл бұрын
Better signage will help, but air quality is great in MK thanks to little traffic problems and convenient cycling shortcuts. You can also leave using these things called buses and trains

Are there connections into MK from nearby towns or villages too? I’m really hoping that various plans in Somerset pan out and we get some connections between towns and villages. Country roads are lovely apart from a lot using the national speed limit and being used by HGVs and other vehicles at speed.
@FullychargedUK3 жыл бұрын
We couldn't agree more with this Simon. We all know those winding country roads too much and drivers can occasionally play on both sides of the law with regards to the speed limit. Cycling infrastructure between villages would not only improve the wellbeing of its population, but also get people healthier!

All that infrastructure, miles and miles of it, yet like Stevenage, it’s virtually unused. Build it and they’ll come ...... but not in MK.
@mikeowen34783 жыл бұрын
Maybe that’s because it’s also really easy to drive round MK. In The Netherlands high bike use is sometimes related to the bike being the quickest option. Eg. The pioneering Groningen traffic plan made cars go the long way round and bikes direct. UK newtowns were designed completely around the car in the 60s and sadly most other towns had the heart ripped out of them for the car. Result: 2021 Urban (and countryside) UK is a complete traffic sewer.
@topbuzz19923 жыл бұрын
@Greig Smith you are completely wrong. Please stop regurgitating tired old myths and propaganda promoted by the anti-cycling infrastructure lobby, which have long since been debunked. The walking and cycling infrastructure in MK does get used by many many people who would otherwise not have the opportunity to cycle safely. You often see children, families and elderly people, as well as commuters using the cycle routes. It’s not perfect by any means, many of the redways are desperately in need of resurfacing due to lack of funding, and as @Mike Owen rightly points out, the city was designed primarily around the car, not the bicycle, which accounts in large part for the difficultly in getting people out of their cars and onto bikes, especially compared to somewhere like Holland for example. But as a long time resident I can assure you that MK’s traffic free redways and leisure routes are used by many people, and the experience of cycling in MK is blissful when compared to almost any other town or city in the UK. If you ask almost anyone from MK you’ll discover that most them love living in the city, they’re very proud of MK, and the redways and leisure routes are one of the things that makes living in the city very special.

thats because they built it with the car in mind. They didn't build it with cyclist or people who do not drive. Go to scandanavia, holland. They will tell you how to build a city for cyclist
@greigs9384 Жыл бұрын
@@moyolinux 😂 It’s the largest and most comprehensive segregated cycling network in the UK. MKs practically famous for its Red Ways. You can literally get anywhere in the city and not share a road with MV’s. But it wasn’t built with cyclists in mind. Ok. Yet the beards of the LCC go on and on and on about segregation and how once built, cars will be abandoned and the modal share will change dramatically to cycling over driving. We’re not Dutch. We don’t live in Holland
