When foreign brands come to China, the Chinese government only charges a 5% import tax as a WTO member. And yet, when China can make good cars, the foreign nations charge upward of 20% tariffs, in the name of National Security. But what is more annoying is that those same governments do not charge the same amount of tariffs on Japanese and Korean cars.

Don't talk absolute nonsense They protected their own car industry in china with high taxes not 5% and high subsidy to local brands . They didn't let Any foreign company enter china without an equal co-venture with a Chinese company that can steal all the know-how ! And that is all only about this specific industry Literally every big industry in china is protected and blocked foreign competition That's the only reason china has built some big internet companies for example

@Mikupigeon 12 күн бұрын
I think 5% is only sales tax rate for 1500-2000 cc ICE cars. Correct me if I am wrong. China tax rates for foreign imported cars: Custom duty 25%, Sales Tax 0-40% depends on engine size and 13% VAT, despite charging 0% sales tax for PURE electric cars, I believe you still have to pay custom duty and VAT. In addition to that, final price of the car you see in showroom does not equal to the sum of these rates, you have to use the formulas for its calculation.

Screen obsolete? Software stop working? That's not how any of that works. Go turn on a TV or phone from 10years ago... yes, it's fine. It just need an input. Software may cease to get updated, but it will still perform the functions built into it. Outdated and obsolete aren't the same. If the hardware breaks, it breaks, but it's not just gonna stop working because of time. It can be outdated, and connectivity may get discontinued, but the thought of "throwing it away" after 5 years is dumb. Now the privacy and viability of this product is a different story.

I'd be more worried about replacement costs. A custom made 48" screen for a specific car model is not going to be cheap to replace, especially if it's not just a screen but a module with all sorts of hardware built in. It only takes an unfortunate bump, or even a few unfortunate dead pixels, to require a swap. If you had two smaller screens and physical buttons the cost would be much lower. Honestly, that could be more expensive to change than the battery.

If it's still running the original software, maybe... but as we've seen with e.g. mobiles, more and more features etc get added over the years as 'free' updates - resulting in first-gen hardware slowing down to the point of being unusable... and not every company provides a way to uninstall those updates, or roll back to an earlier (faster) version, etc.

One of the main advantages of a screen is that the interface and controls can be expanded and modified over time. The Tesla user interface has had a number of additions and revisions which add features to the car that didn't exist when I bought it! If the dashboard consisted of fixed switches you wouldn't be able to do this. There's therefore less chance of a screen going "out of date" than a traditional dashboard control layout.

Why would the screen "not work" in a couple of years time..? Provided that the processor is sufficiently advanced to support future versions of the vehicle's OS, then there's no issue. And that is the key, either the chipset has to be future-proofed, or they have to be easily serviceable and upgradeable...surely, it will be easier/cheaper to swap-out a CPU then junk the entire car.

With EVs, it's allllll about the platform and software. And sharing those to create scale to reduce costs or maximise profits depending on your point of view. The car itself is a tad generic apart from the bonkers screen. But the same comment about that could easily be made about the one(s) in the top end Mercedes after all. It's a thing the modern world needs to get to grips with.

Drove an Oldsmobile Trofeo with one of the first computer screens... Sure it's an obsolete computer by today's standards, but the instant mpg and engine data displayed in real time is still not as useful as a car gas pedal and brake. Put the big screen distractions in the house and live a lot longer.

The longevity of the screen is a worry for me also. I recently upgraded my Mitubishi Outlander PHEV to a used Kia E Niro. My budget allowed for either a Tesla Model 3 OR the E Niro. My budget isn’t inexhaustible and I tight with my cash. With the Tesla, I worry about the screen, controlling everything, and how much I’d have to pay to replace/repair it. With the Kia, I’ve got physical buttons, so if the screen fops on me - as long as I can still drive the car, I’d probably cheap out and drive it as-is.. I DO like the screen, but I’d not pay big money to replace it. The Geely is a nice car - I’d love to know the range and stats

is in some years the screen dont work anymore you go and replace the screen with a new one. kinda same as with buttons.. 🤨🤔 what if the CPU running this thing is broken i hear you say? well you replace the CPU and reinstall´the system. isnt that hard. i am driving a car with 2 massive screens for 3 years now. no reason to think why that suddenly would make my car undrivable

I think this car is going to be taxed and fee´d and then you can buy it for 30.000 Euros in Europe ... that still would be a fantastic price for such a decent sedan with lots of horsepower and nice interior !!! I would definatly buy one when available for under 25.000 Euros in Germany.

It seems impossible that they can profit from selling this for £19k less taxes!!! - Add a max of 25% for UK sales and it will be a runaway success! - Huge battery, range, size and performance for 'peanuts!'

This won't be sold for that price in Europe. You cannot take the Chinese market price and just convert it to European prices. You need to add penalty tax, sales tax, transport, type registration and local adjustments to the price and maybe even more stuff. The price will then be more like 40-50K €.

If I want to see a screen, I'll sit and watch my TV or go on my computer. In a car, I just want the info I need for driving and that's it. A few analogue dials should do it.

Some people prefer the info on a screen. The screen will offer the option to have GPS and different camera around the car. Honestly, when it comes to fully utilising all the functions, more screens the better.

thats just your opinion and that shows you are old enough but even then screens are better then monologs and sometimes safer as a matter of fact but ok keep driving a monolog car thats less safer then a smart car that can literally save your life. in case you dont know what im talking about you will see in the near future(if you still live then) what im talking about

@@netrox1345 Putting all of the controls in a screen doesn't necessarily make it safer. Side mirrors, signalling stalks, AC vents etc.. should be adjustable without going through menus, there's such a thing as being too minimalistic.

Its because the have the economic of scale. I think Geely's is the among the one that heavily sharing its EV platform towards it's auto Group in a large scale for years. Now SEA platform has spawn more then 16 product from it was launch in 2021. As an example, Ford only have 2 EV's with Mach E was a Cell to Pack in a heavily revise C2 platform while Lightning basically a Battery on frame platform. GM have 9 cars under their Ultium platform but several cars sales just started in 2023. With its issues, we knew they are far away to reach economic of scale.

It’s not a grandpa car at all 😂. It’s very sleek and packed with features. Would have liked to have some efficiency figures, Chinese EV are usually struggling with efficiency. The Ioniq 6 also has a narrow entry that I used to not like, but after seeing it in the metal, its boot is gigantic and that opening is also more than fine.
