I bought a 2018 Nissan leaf in November last year (in Japan). I had read about the lack of liquid cooling and I was a bit worried, but it does not seem to be an issue. As I often go hiking I have driven it to the mountain -20 degrees Celsius and I never noticed any performance difference. I also made relatively long drives such as Tokyo Nagoya always fast charging at 50kw and also did not have any issues, always charged quickly. I have never done more than two fast charges without a long stop, so I do not know what would happen if you fast charge 3 times or more in a row, but at least for me I am never planning to do such a long trip without longer stops. I am quite satisfied with the new leaf and I love de e-pedal it is so convenient specially going down hill or up hill as in this video. The other day I had to drive an ICE for the first time after several months using only the LEAF and when I heard all the noise the unresponsive acceleration I was really surprised with myself as I had never really noticed before. It was like going back to a steam train from a bullet train. There is no way I can go back to an ICE.

I recently had the opportunity to drive the new Leaf, I was cheeky and got it as a courtesy car for the day. I still drive an ICE, I can't afford the upfront cost of an EV yet, but it's something I want to do in the (hopefully near) future. I was really impressed with how it drove, the e-pedal certainly took some getting used to, but it was so nice to get that bit of extra regen when coming up to roundabouts/junctions. Even with reduced range because of the cold, I was really impressed with the new leaf, and I actually managed to gain a few miles of range on a 25 mile journey, thanks to careful control and regen. I wasn't too fussed with the ProPilot, I felt it moved around the lane too much for my taste, but worked happily enough on A roads.

That's a lovely intro, the music, trees, the whole cinematography and that you said that the car's charged up from 100% renewable energy, great video. Epedal will take some getting used to for me, I'm a bit of a 'petrol head' and I love the pressing of a clutch and changing gear, especially in my car, the gear changing is like a bolt action rifle, not that I've ever used a bolt action rifle, I'm guessing that's how slick and nice it would feel. Oh and to Robert, you're so patient with that range thing going up the big hill, I would have just floored it to see how much the range would have dropped but then maybe not being able to reach the destination =P

Loving my 2018 Nissan Leaf. Driven 11k km so far and love the ePedal and the ProPilot Assist. Epedal is always on for me so when I'm not using Pro Pilot Assist it is ready to go for me. Pro Pilot Assist and the intelligent cruise control makes it so I am much less fatigued after a long drive. For the price, it is a super car. I drive it every chance I get. Sometimes I set a trip up for myself just so I can go for a drive in my Nissan Leaf 2018. The Rapidgate issues don't bother me. The charging times fit in perfectly with how I like to drive and take breaks to have a rest. I don't find myself getting impatient while the charging is taking place. I do what I have to do and when I get back to the car there is enough in the battery for the next stage of the journey.

I've been driving e-pedal for about a month and also love it. It's nice that in the setup, e-pedal can be defaulted to on. The old Leaf, and the new one, did not have a default for B over D in the shift mechanism. I've not found if there is any difference between B and D with e-pedal on, but just out of habit I always shift to B as soon as I head out.
@tjam42296 жыл бұрын
B Y, the e-pedal is flawed in Nissan Leaf. They have the friction brakes being applied when you lift off the accelerator. Other cars like Tesla, Bmw i3, Chevy Bolt all come to a complete stop when lift off accelerator, all by regeneration alone. No friction brakes needed. Nissan wastes valuable kinetic energy by applying brakes. Loses energy as heat into brake pads
@VantagePointVideoGarage6 жыл бұрын
A really nice video but I think that’s three reviews now that you’ve done on this Leaf and not tested it’s charging capabilities. That’s a big statement to make that it’s better than the old Leaf when it can’t complete a long journey with more than two CHAdeMO charges as quick as a 24kw Mk1.
@zacksstuff6 жыл бұрын
I'm a big fan of electric cars. Just this morning, I got a ride in a Tesla Model 3, and hot damn that thing is quick. The amount of torque shoving you into your seat is just incredible. The people who say electric cars are slow... Clearly they haven't driven one.

Really does sound good and I want one. Regarding the e-pedal system, do the brake lights come on when you lift of the gas (sorry!) pedal or only when the mechanical brake operates?
@rtr_dnd6 жыл бұрын
They come on in both cases. The lights are controlled based on acceleration sensor on the car, so they come on when deceleration is larger than certain degree.
@letsgocamping886 жыл бұрын
ritar do they come on when you’re sat on your drive with the pedal down as it’ll be a right pain to check they are working... probably led these days so less of an issue I’d imagine

There are regulatory requirements for them to come on above a certain deceleration rate.

Great video, amazing views, quality is much better than top gear today! Really nice, fairly reasonable priced car for today's tech level. Pleaaase! Make it with 500 km range on full charge - it would be the end of ICE era for the car itself!!!
@iamsetset4 жыл бұрын
Does anybody know exactly how the E-Pedal achieves the slowing down when you take your foot off the accelerator? I would assume that for a while it is using the motor regen to slow and put more juice back into the battery, but to get to a complete stop it would seem to need to actually activate the brakes (which also of course have some regen capaility). So does it do both in combo, switch from one to the other, or what? At about 15:00 he talks about this - is what is states accurate?
@johnnyViDeO6 жыл бұрын
Well shot and edited video.
@stephenhulbert35006 жыл бұрын
Interesting that you say the epedal braking is really smooth, because this was on the worse aspects of the old Leaf. Many owners complained about it being difficult to bring the car to a smooth stop. So it looks like they cracked that one - very good news!
@alwAudio6 жыл бұрын
Just a quick correction for accuracy, whilst going downhill in petrol vehicle won't recover petrol, if you are on overrun (i.e. no throttle) fuel usage is zero. Modern fuel injected cars don't inject fuel under those circumstances. I actually loved the look of the leaf, I have my heart set on a model 3, but this is the first alternative I've even given consideration to

Matthew Stamp, this e-pedal is a gimmick, and a bad one at that. Nissan has it applying friction brakes when you lift off accelerator and thereby wasting valuable kinetic energy as heat into brake pads. Nissan needs to study more electric vehicles like Tesla, Bmw i3, Chevy Bolt. All these cars can come to a complete stop using regeneration only. No friction brakes needed.
