I purchased a Minolta Celtic 135mm 2.8 this year. Unbelievably, i got it for less than 30 bucks on ebay, and got a fine copy. I had watched a youtube with a guy shooting some video with it in L.A, and he had a nice touch, following bicycle riders, shooting friends. He had a style. But I wasn't ready for the optics on the Celtic. Not for that price. And I own Fuji primes, like the 16 1.4, and the 90 2.0. It suddenly became like a favorite child. Crazy sharp at f4 with a Fotodiox Fuji adapter. Rendition wonderful. You still get of tons of subject isolation at f 5.6, as on a Fuji X body, it becomes pretty much a 200mm. I cannot recommend this lens any higher. I tend to bias the white balance to some warmth with it, and it compliments the lens extremely well. I watched your Minolta zoom review just minutes ago, and decided to drop by on your latest hoping you'll read this. GET THIS LENS. Hope all is well, love your Bond style, (Check out SOMA FM sometime, it's breaks between tunes are all quotes from Bond films) I made a short noir some time ago. It was great to have my background in film scores in my head to help me think of style and editing. If that makes any sense. Here's the film. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eai0aWeMlsp9Y9U

That's great to hear! I love Minolta's lenses. I have the Rokkor 135mm f2.8, and from what I've read, a lot of the Celtic lenses used the same optical formula, but were housed in cheaper bodies. It's a great lens for sure! I just watched your Bum Rap video. Excellent work! Thank you for sharing. I love the film noir look and black and white movies in general. Side note - I spotted a Rolleicord in your movie in the scene of the man looking trough a book and falling asleep on the table. Love that camera! Cheers!

The problem with autofocus point and shoots is that they don’t have manual control for the aperture on the lens itself. That’s why I only adapt lenses from old rangefinders that have all manual settings. Unfortunately many brands started making automated cameras and the manual settings disappeared. You can still adapt a lens like yours but you won’t be able to change the aperture.

@VintageOptiks
@VintageOptiks 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Very unusual rendering from this lens for sure! The adapting method varies from lens to lens. This Rokkor was particularly challenging, because of the loose aperture ring and the odd thread mount on the back of the lens. But I managed to figure it out. The goal is to adapt each lens in a simple way, without using power tools or machines. Each lens has its quirks, and some are easier to adapt than others.

for the focusing section, would the process or part to buy be slightly different for micro four thirds than it would be for your sony camera? i want this to be my first vintage lens adaptation but it's my first time seeing the adapter have the focusing capabilities on it, and I don't know if there's an equivalent of what you have for M43 thanks
@VintageOptiks
@VintageOptiks 13 күн бұрын
Hi, I'm not sure if you can find the same helicoid adapter for M43. But take a look on eBay. That's where I find most of these adapters. Another thing to consider is the flange focal distance (FFD) of your camera. For Sony E mount is only 18mm, which allows me to adapt a lot of different lenses. But for M43 is 19.25mm which is longer and will make it a bit harder for you to reach infinity especially if you are adapting old rangefinder lenses like this Minolta. For regular SLR lenses you will be fine, but rangefinder lenses need to sit really close to the sensor in order to reach infinity. I hope this helps.

@@nindoninshu Sorry to hear that. Sometimes the parts on these old cameras can be really hard to dismantle. I've had some moments of frustration myself, but usually what helps is reapplying nail polish remover several times, and trying to unscrew the parts until it eventually works. But definitely get a spanner wrench. They are not expensive and work much better than some other tools you might already have.
@nindoninshu
@nindoninshu 3 күн бұрын
@@VintageOptiks thanks, actually in a final attempt what i ended up doing was finding a piece of metal that could fit between the slots, and hacksawed it to fit the diameter of the lens and used a vice grip to turn it with all my might while pushing with downward force... that finally worked 🙏 but it was so extremely stuck the metal got all twisted up and almost didn't work... as expected, the culprit was the grease literally being powder dry, and i'm fairly confident a spanner wrench would've broken on this lens...the piece of metal i used was much thicker than an average spanner wrench
