Brilliant. I will clean my nikor AF. But first I have to search disassembly instructions for that lense. Fungus is on the back ( near the camera side) and looks very tight and refuses to open. Any tips?
@VintageOptiksКүн бұрын
If you have an auto focus (AF) lens, it will be more complicated to take it apart, because there are electronics inside it that communicate with the camera. I only disassemble vintage manual focus lenses, because they are much simpler and easier to take apart. If you don't have experience disassembling lenses, and if your lens is special, it's best to take it to a professional who can properly clean it for you.

for the focusing section, would the process or part to buy be slightly different for micro four thirds than it would be for your sony camera? i want this to be my first vintage lens adaptation but it's my first time seeing the adapter have the focusing capabilities on it, and I don't know if there's an equivalent of what you have for M43 thanks
@VintageOptiksКүн бұрын
Hi, I'm not sure if you can find the same helicoid adapter for M43. But take a look on eBay. That's where I find most of these adapters. Another thing to consider is the flange focal distance (FFD) of your camera. For Sony E mount is only 18mm, which allows me to adapt a lot of different lenses. But for M43 is 19.25mm which is longer and will make it a bit harder for you to reach infinity especially if you are adapting old rangefinder lenses like this Minolta. For regular SLR lenses you will be fine, but rangefinder lenses need to sit really close to the sensor in order to reach infinity. I hope this helps.

You are welcome. That's amazing that you got your first Nikkor lens back in the 60's! I love hearing from people who used this equipment back in the film days. I have the Nikon F2 and I love shooting with it. Perhaps the best mechanical SLR ever made IMHO. Not sure if you saw this on my channel, but I also reviewed the Nikkor 180mm f2.8 ED AIS. One of my all time favorite lenses!

I have an old Pentax K2 with a 1.4 lens. The front lens seems to contain perhaps not fungus but like a cloud like smudge. Tested it on a canon and it produces very subtle coloured images. Yet scared to take it apart. It read somewhere that I can put the lens in the sun and that UV light micht clean it?
@VintageOptiks12 күн бұрын
Hi, what you are describing on your lens sounds like haze, and not fungus. Exposing it to the sun is not going to do much if it's haze. You will need to take it apart and clean it. But if you are worried about doing that you can always bring it to a professional.

Another great video. I think I have this lens but it’s called a Pentacon because the minimum focussing distance and the filter size is the same as this lens. Meyer Gorlitz must have made them for the Zenitar cameras.I noticed too the aperture does not get hexagonal until about F4. So from 1.8 to F 3.5 the aperture is very much rounded, which will affect your Bokeh balls. Thanks for sharing your insights. Regards Gerry
@gerryhardman9060Ай бұрын
Excellent video and I enjoy the fact that you’re not a talking head but you actually showed us examples of the shots taken with this lens. You mentioned you compared it with other lenses. I have a 50 1.2 Nikon lens not the AIS lens, but the AI lens, so it only has a seven aperture blades. Just wondering if you had a chance to compare with that lens? I have the Pentax SMC 50 1.4 and the 55 F1 .8 both M42 which are also very nice lenses, but I can see the Bokeh on this 1.2 lens is very dreamy. And yet still sharp. Regards Gerry
@VintageOptiksАй бұрын
Thank you Gerry. Glad you enjoyed the video. I don’t have the AI Nikkor 50mm f1.2 so I can’t say how this Pentax lens compares to it. But I do have the Nikkor -S Auto 55mm f1.2 and I like the Pentax much better. The bokeh from the Pentax is absolutely stunning and whatever is in focus stays sharp even at f1.2. But as you probably know, your depth of field is ridiculously thin at that aperture setting, so only a tiny fraction of your image will be sharp. I hope this helps. Cheers!
@gerryhardman9060Ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I tried that 55 1.2 lens and the flare from it was quite noticeable compared to my 50 1.4 AFD lens. I recently acquired a 57 mm 1.4 Konica lens and I like having the longer normal focal length. That 7 mm makes a difference And blows the background out more than a 50 mm lens does. On a DX camera that 57 becomes an 85 which is really nice for portraits. I checked out eBay and that Pentax lens is now over 500 bucks, so uTube has had a big effect on the 1.2 market.😊

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizer. I wonder the coating of your lens is safe from it.

The Hydrogen Peroxide I use is a 3% solution, so it’s very weak. I haven’t had any issues with the coatings on my lenses.

Hi! How wide of a lens are you looking for? If 28mm is wide enough for you, then there are plenty of good choices out there, but if you want to go wider, prices get pretty high and the lenses usually have more issues with aberrations and distortion.
