Today's work was all about cleaning out the water troughs. No more gold fish and algae eaters. Back to cleaning out the troughs the old way. And like every day at the ranch something unexpected happens. And this day it was my #brangus bull Dinero 30J4 in the wrong pasture. He jumped the fence to be with the cows on the north pasture.

Thanks so much!! It’s taken me a while but they now come when called. I developed this approach with cubes. So now I have to make certain I have cubes when I call or they will get upset.

Nice herd of Brangus! My PawPaw ran a herd in Comanche co back in the 60s & 70s. Always have a soft spot for Brangus.

My cousin's angus bull jumps the fence all the time, we've given up trying to keep him in but he's not aggressive at all and he doesn't wander off so it's not much of a problem

Ah..it's a pain for me. I am running a defined breeding season. And I only want or need him to breed starting in December.

Yes. I'm learning that. I just want him to do like I need him to do. lol lol. I switched to 1 breeding season a year. So don't need those cows or heifers to get breed before it's time.

Are you asking how large is my place or are you asking how many acres for you to start? My place is 100 acres. On the other question the answer is .... it depends on your business plan and goals. At a high level you can plan on 3 to 5 acres per head of cattle. BUT it really depends on the acreage and the ability to produce forage.

It wont hurt the cows who ever said that doesnt know what their talking about. But if you wanna keep the green shit out buy a bunch of thise black floating balls they use in those huge holding ponds the tanks aren't very big so you shouldnt need that many.

Do you know where to purchase them from?

Just curious..What’s the ideal or minimum amount of cattle you should start your herd with ?🤔🐄🐄
@PrideRanch
@PrideRanch 20 күн бұрын
This is a difficult question. The short answer is it depends. It depends on your business plan and goals. You could use the very basic rule of thumb that says 5 acres for each head of cattle. But and I mean BUt the real answer is what’s your business plan? How much forage can your pasture produce. Is it ALL grass and VeRY few weeds? Or is it mostly weeds and very little grass? . What size of cow will you raise? Is it a 1100 pound cow or a 1600 pound cow? Cows eat 3% of their body weight everyday in dry matter. What will you do with the calves when they reach weaning? You keeping them or selling?

@@PrideRanch 🤔.. Gotcha .. I Appreciate the knowledge and time spent responding Buddy! I will keep all of this in mind as I have some grass land I been eyeing for myself or to invest in.. If I may ask , Which would be wiser choice of the two? …But With that said if everything goes as good as good goes , I’ll make sure to start there.. You most definitely got a subscriber here and I’ll be tuning in …Thanks again Man!! 👍🤠🫡

Being out with cattle brings peace. I’m happy to read you can experience that peace also. One of my favorite activities is to walk with the herd at sunrise. I’ll share that experience soon.
